Chapter 23 - Ch 22 Dealings and Dealers

Isaac's destination had soon arrived. The windows on the train that used to portray a city of gloomy high rise buildings and daunting colorless skyscrapers now showed a more suburban, though still very much city looking view.

He walked hastily towards the crowded exit of the train. Lurching and rearing his legs around he was careful not to unknowingly step on anyone's feet, but still got some sidelong glances from some people he had brushed past in his ignorance.

He, along with a small group of others jostled through the two person sized platform doors, trying to evade the swarm of people who were pushing past each other to get on the soon to be leaving train.

Squeezing himself through , he immediately started walking towards the stations exit. The brightly lit subway station illuminated the crowd's of differently figured but similarly dressed business people.

Isaac walked briskly but carefully, heedful not to trip on the trash that was lying on the floor. New York, after the 'Incident' had become an even filthier place to live in. Once illusive rodents that used to hide away from the eye's of passing pedestrians and scant away with the sound of the incoming train now no longer flinched. Daring to eat, and satisfy their bodily needs in front of the mass public, as if proclaiming the spot home and ridiculing the past owners.

Of course, Isaac having been born years after the 'Incident' knew nothing about the cities greater years. He had been bred, and grew to understand the world no differently then the decrepit husk of a former that it's current self was.

He ascended up the subways stairs and came to hear the familiar deafening barks and beeping's that was so intrinsic to the authentic new York experience, and made way towards the direction of his school.

He took a shortcut that led away from the less crowded main streets and headed towards the residential areas of the city.

The neighborhoods that led to the school, though not nice by any means where much more decent looking then anywhere near his home. But, never minding the aesthetics' what Isaac truly appreciated of this route was it's calm.

The march was surprisingly quiet, unusual for a city that housed several million residence, but that was why Isaac liked this shortcut. It was away from the loud anxious streets, it gave him a quiet place to think while walking.

Rooting through different alleys, Isaac eventually got on the path that would lead him to his school faster.

......

'Ah shit' Thought Isaac a bit too slowly.

The boy, who was not far from school had lost himself in thought. He made his march with the instinct's of someone who'd trekked it a hundred times before, not paying any mind to what was in front of him. Which was why he found himself staring at an obviously illegal scene.

The gathering featured a group of four. Two of which who were standing to each side of a third boy that Isaac recognized as being a fellow school mate of his. All of them wore inconspicuous jackets, but the clothing on the fourth man that stood on the opposite side of the three looked obviously more worn out and inexpensive.

He looked like the man on the 'Wetube' app that Isaac had watched earlier. Not facially but appearance wise, he wore a jacket stained with discolored remnants of some food or drink he had from who knew how long ago. Darken circle's painted the areas beneath his eyes black. His skin was pocked full of dark spots that was indicative of a drug addict. He was also shaking and breathing hurriedly, as if his skeleton wanted to jump out of his body. All in all, he looked like the stereotypical junky that Isaac had seen roaming around the streets a thousand times before.

"The Fuck are you staring at!" He barked suddenly with an aggressive stare. Isaac, who had realized his mistake swiftly swayed his head to the side. The man who was already freaking out didn't take this as a chance to end the situation, rather he screamed again.

"Do ah got something on mah face Bitch?" He leered at Isaac with a dangerous eye while digging inside of his pocket and taking a step forward. Isaac who saw the man doing so through the corner of his eye's was preparing to activate the Body tempering technique in case the man tried anything, but he didn't need to.

"Calm the fuck down Leo.. he's with us" The boy who Isaac recognized as his classmate said with a monotone note to his voice, he said this while his arm blocked across the druggies body. In between his hand and the man's chest there was a small Ziploc bag that was half filled with a bluish powder.

"See?" The contents of the bag had managed to sway the man faster then the boy's lies. The disheveled junky with speed's like that of a desert stranded person who had finally seen water, rapidly grasped the bag and hid it inside of his jacket. Not even bothering to look back at Isaac or his dealer's he walked away with a smile while talking to himself in a heated discussion like a schizophrenic.

Isaac, who was on edge because of the scene was slow to react. He failed to notice his school mate walking towards him.

"Ah, Isaac.. Aren't you from the famous D district?.. I thought you'd have a smarter head about you". The boy said with a playful tone.

Isaac, felt weird. Was it because of his terrible neighborhood that he was so well known by everyone from the school? Even though the boy knew his name Isaac didn't know the boy's.

Seeing Isaac's confused face, the boy couldn't help but widen his smile as he deduced the reason why " Wow.. It's really heartbreaking to know I mean so little to you friend.. you couldn't even be bothered to remember my name".

His smile was replaced with a convincing frown. He used Isaac's right shoulders as a prop and leaned his face downwards pretending to be distraught, as if he really cared. Only, for him to pull back moments later with the same happy smirk he had on before. " Well. I can't very well blame you for that, it's not like I ever told it to you in the first place".

Isaac was taken aback by the sudden change. He could only stare at the confusing boy with a more puzzled look on his face.

The boy's hands drew close to his forehead and his fingers separated showing only parts of his whole face. His eye's drew upon a cold light and his face had a suave seriousness to it. " My name is Kenith" He said dramatically, loud enough that it almost echoed. His performance was successfully underwhelmingly, drawing in a crowd of silence and wind.

Isaac was confused and felt the situation to be awkward, but the boy still stood still as if bathing, in a imaginary stage light.

"Ahh.." the boy whined. "How come he didn't react like he was supposed to?" He questioned his nearest counterpart.

"Umm... maybe he's.. scared?" The boy who had a similar expression on his face as Isaac replied slowly. Kenith's, confused appearance seemed to lighten up in realization upon hearing this.

"Scared.. Yea, he was just in a bad situation.. I reckon if it was not because of me he probably would be in some serious trouble right now"... Isaac was even more confused now. Was the boy trying to act out a skit or was he actually seriously just a nut?

The boy who was still acting his role as a joker in his play suddenly reached his arm around Isaac's head and pulled him in like he was a close friend, he whispered in a fully audible voice. " You should be scared.. After all life is full of scary things.. what you can't be friend is fucking stupid" His voice dropped the jolly tone he'd been just playing around with.

Taking his arm's off of Isaac he suddenly walked back towards his friends not bothering to glance back at the stunned Isaac. "Isaac, bad luck follows those of us who are at the bottom rung of society.. Be careful so I don't one day end up seeing your dead body somewhere.. or worse like that man I just had dealing's with".

I'm having second opinions in releasing it because I'm not sure if this new character will be liked by everyone. I'm scared that it might even make some people quit reading. I've quit reading a novel because of one character before, so if you do end up disliking it so much that you don't feel like reading anymore, then I hope you good luck in finding something better. Anyways thanks for reading...
