My eyes went to Silas as he climbed the stairs. His brown eyes were the same color of the soil hiding beneath all the snow. They promised life and safety just as the earth did for the plants. His face was neutral, no movement or signs of a smile, but those eyes held his chaos. I could feel the energy radiating through him, the anticipation for this moment.
