Chapter 32 - causes of the battle of new york

The Hulk leapt towards the massive Surtur.

He landed on Surtur's head, clenched his fists, and began hammering wildly!

"Wow… this green monster is crazy. Thor, look! He really deserves his reputation as someone who can beat you up!" Loki took the opportunity to mock.

Thor was stunned. He hadn't expected the big green guy to be so reckless!

Compared to ordinary people, the Hulk was already massive—but in front of the flame giant, he looked like an ant.

Surtur, caught off guard by the sudden attack, was momentarily stunned. The Hulk took advantage, pummeling the giant's head with his fists. But soon enough, Surtur simply grabbed the Hulk and flung him away.

The Hulk got up again, seemingly ready to challenge the flame giant once more, but was scolded by one-eyed Thor.

In the end, he had to give up, taking Thor and the Valkyrie and leaping straight onto the spaceship.

As the flame giant turned Asgard into a blazing sea of fire, sharp black spikes suddenly shot out from the water, piercing directly into Surtur's body.

The water's surface parted—Hela, the goddess of death, emerged!

She wielded a massive jet-black spear, launching a barrage of attacks against the flame giant.

The two rightful princes who should have been defending Asgard had fled, while the goddess of death stood alone to resist the flame giant's destruction...

The Asgardians, unaware of the full truth, erupted in uproar. The extensive video footage left them shouting: the prince and second prince had abandoned Asgard!

Although some with discernment understood that Thor and Loki did it to protect the people, they were still the minority.

Especially when the enormous flame giant let out another deafening roar:

"I am the end of Asgard!"

Then he raised his massive sword and drove it into the ground beneath his feet.

With a thunderous boom, flames devoured everything. All of Asgard exploded in a fiery blast…

In the square, the crowd was in complete chaos. This apocalyptic scene was unbearable to witness.

Odin had to step forward to restore order. His presence helped calm the Asgardians temporarily—but the damage was already done.

"This is the future of Asgard! But the future can be changed!" Odin raised his arms and shouted.

If he had Gungnir in his hand at that moment, his words would've carried more weight. Unfortunately, his artifact had been taken from him.

"King! How do we change the future?"

Someone cried out from the crowd.

Odin wanted to say, "You can rely on me."

But the shame of his public apology had already weakened his authority.

He coughed twice and pointed to the glowing screen in the air:

"You've all seen how incredible this quiz game is. Thor and Loki are fighting for our future! They will find a way to change it through this game!"

Indeed, the quiz game was miraculous. It could not only predict future events but also make the God-King and his two sons act obediently.

But the real question was—could the two brothers truly win this game and change the future?

Someone whispered, "If I remember correctly, they answered the first question incorrectly… or maybe they even scored negatively?"

---

In the eternal space—

Loki and Thor wore grim expressions. On one hand, the video showing the future gave them a strong sense of crisis.

On the other, they had answered the first question incorrectly, suffering heavy point deductions. Climbing back to a positive score was going to be difficult.

Of course, Steve and Bucky from Team B were also losing points, but they were still doing slightly better.

Suddenly, a deep, indifferent voice echoed:

"[Team B will now answer the second question. Please select your question from Category B!]

Loki grumbled, clearly displeased:

"This is so unfair. The game rules aren't transparent at all. The team that picks the question first is always at a disadvantage!"

Thor nodded in agreement, flashing a grin at Steve and Bucky.

"You might be ahead for now, but in the end, we'll be the winners!"

"Who knows," Steve replied casually, flipping through the light curtain in front of him.

As he read through the list of questions, he was shocked—and increasingly confused.

"How many main members are in the Avengers?"

"What color is Tony Stark's favorite underwear?"

"Who led the Chitauri army in the invasion of Earth?"

"Who is behind the Battle of New York?"

Question after question kept appearing, like a waterfall.

Steve grew more puzzled the more he read. He'd been frozen for decades—he had no idea what the modern Earth was like.

But what he cared about most… was Earth's safety.

Bucky spoke up:

"I don't know which question to pick, but I want answers to a lot of them."

They were now certain this quiz game could predict the future.

If that was true, Bucky definitely wanted to know what would happen to him.

Steve nodded.

"Me too. But we have to focus on answering correctly."

He felt a wave of guilt. The questions were so bizarre, and none seemed like ones he could answer correctly.

Worse, their time to choose was running out. Bucky gave up and said:

"Steve, you choose. I trust you."

Steve didn't have time to respond. He quickly scanned through the remaining strange questions and, just before the countdown ended, picked one:

"What triggered the Battle of New York?"

Steve wasn't familiar with the details of this question.

But he felt that whether he answered correctly wasn't what mattered—what mattered was the future this question revealed.

In the first half of his life, Steve had thought about war more than anything.

The brutal global conflict he'd lived through had brought endless suffering and pain.

So naturally, he was sensitive to war-related matters.

If a battle broke out in New York… did that mean Earth would be invaded?

Steve didn't care if he got the answer right.

He just wanted to know what was going to happen—and how to stop it.

[Team B's Question: What caused the Battle of New York?]

[A: Cosmic Cube

B: Eye of Agamotto

C: Sky Mothership

D: Arc Reactor]

When this question appeared on the light curtain, people watching the live broadcast on Earth could no longer stay calm.

The earlier questions had felt distant—like watching an outdoor movie.

But this one hit close to home.

The Battle of New York.

Was a war really going to break out there?

Nick Fury's gaze locked onto Option C: Sky Mothership.

That was a top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. creation—one of the most powerful battle fortresses they had.

Could its exposure be what caused the war?
