Chapter 1 - Prologue

In the magical land of Velhem, where mages and monsters roam, the world is ruled by hierarchy and ranks. The two categories that divide these ranks are Superior and Inferior. The Superior ranks are official and can only be achieved through official contributions and victories in official tournaments. Meanwhile, the Inferior ranks are unofficial and can only be proven through defeating rare monsters, winning in unofficial duels, or making contributions without concrete evidence. These contributions are somewhat approved by the Magic Order, but they have yet to be proven to the Kings of the different kingdoms. The Inferior ranks start at 50 and go down to 1. Those who prove themselves worthy can be promoted to the Superior ranks, starting from Superior 50.

The clans of Velhem are encouraged not only to be famous in name but to help their fellow mages grow into something more than they could ever imagine. The common elements are Nature, Fire, and Water, followed by more complex elements like Air, Lightning, and so on.

The land of Velhem starts with the kingdom of the North, where King Liam values the lives of his people more than his own authority. By his side is Keifer the Tactician, the 4th Superior Mage on the continent, who helped Liam win wars in the North. Meanwhile, in the South, James reigns as the King. He is feared by his people but respected nonetheless, and believes that "it is better to be feared than loved if one cannot be both." His sidekicks, Eros the Lust and Arthas the Undead, are the 7th and 8th Superior, respectively.

You may wonder how James managed to recruit these powerful mages to his side. Well, let's just say he showed them who's boss. For now, the North and South kingdoms are at peace, but they are constantly researching and looking for the One True Magic. The East and West kingdoms are in alliance, as their influence in power is inferior compared to the North and South. They only have the 23rd and 18th Superior, respectively.

Other Superiors wander throughout the continent, pursuing their own goals. Some strive to become stronger and live happily with their family, while others look for people to serve or become their own rulers. It is up to the kingdoms to find and influence them so that they may upgrade their power. Families with Superiors, especially those in the top 30 ranks, are well-known. Even a rich family with no connections to a Superior will gladly bow down to a normal family with one on their side, as having such a connection is highly valued. However, families with Superiors never bow down to each other, as they all have pride, and no one knows which family may become the most powerful someday.
