Chapter 80 - Chapter 80 - Symbiotes

Ethan frowned as he made a few more tweaks to the machine he was working on. Nearby were the two tubes of liquid. Both of which were sloshing around in the semi liquid state. Infrequently a tendril would slap up against the side of the tube.

The two liquids were different colors. The golden one was a bit more aggressive while the blue one seemed to only make a motion when he was looking at it. Further enforcing the fact that they were alive.

As well as making it so much more embarrassing that he had forgotten to do this. To be fair he has been very busy recently. But that was still no excuse.

"I know I am almost done." Ethan told the amorphous blobs as he got close to finishing. He just had to connect this wire and this wire and… done!

He sat back and nodded at the machine before looking over at the blobs. "Who wants to go first?" The blue one immediately shot a tendril up. Ethan picked up the tube and placed it in the machine and powered it on. There was a light humming then it stopped.

"Testing-testing-Oh it worked!" The blue blob suddenly made a waving motion. The voice was mechanical as it was the basic voice that Ethan programmed into the machine. "But I do not like the voice. It is not very manly."

"I was kinda working on a rushed timetable." Ethan answered, "Now what and who are you… things?"

"Well our actual names are too difficult in your language since they are a combination of vibrations. But my name is roughly translated to Patriot, we are called Symbiotes, please do not confuse us with parasites." Patriot proudly declared, Ethan could swear it puffed up some of its liquids like a man puffing out his chest in pride.

"Okay Symbiotes," Ethan pulled over a pad of paper and began writing. "How did you get to Earth? Why are you here?"

"We arrived on Earth at different times. I arrived during the American Revolution. My assignment was to decide whether or not this planet could be a feeding ground for our species. When I realized they were not space capable I could not send word, which usually meant for our species that the planet was not ready. As for how I arrived, my species is somewhat resilient except when it comes to certain things." The blob slightly shifted, "so I was encased in a rock that is a combination of materials and was thrown on a trajectory to this planet."

Out of all the things that Ethan just heard the scariest part was not that this thing was older than his country. Nor was it that its species wants to use his planet as a 'feeding ground'. It was the fact that Patriot was 'thrown' in an asteroid on a trajectory to Earth. The amount of control and power would have to be astronomical, and very terrifying.

"And now?"

"Now I plan to continue living here. Believe it or not I actually enjoyed assisting in the revolution. I would like to see what fruit it bore during my time… under." Patriot answered, "I will however need a host, and a way to feed."

"I assume you need to eat living things? That might be a problem. As for the host, would you be okay with an animal?" Ethan asked as he quickly considered several things. As well as the fact that they might try to bring their people here. He should find a way to kill them before he releases them.

"Umm… not technically, actually humans produce various liquids internally that we can consume. But I did discover that chocolate has several chemicals that allow us to feed as well." Patriot explained, "but I am all for undergoing additional testing if you think you can find a better source of sustenance. As for an animal… I would like to have an eagle as a host."

Ethan made the additional notes on his notepad before nodding, "okay that is it for now. I will put you back in the freezer so you enter your comatose state. Do not worry, I will start searching for a host soon, then I will run those additional tests."

"Splendid-" Patriot sounded like he was going to talk some more but Ethan pulled his tube out of the machine. Which immediately caused Patriot to seemingly begin… pouting, Ethan just had a feeling. He moved over to the freezer and put him in it.

Then he walked back and inserted the golden symbiote into the machine, "LET ME OUT! FREE ME YOU INSUFFERABLE HUMAN! I WILL-" Ethan immediately hit the mute button on the machine. He sat back and waited a few minutes until the symbiote calmed down.

Then he leaned forward and pressed the unmute button, "feeling less hostile?"

"Fine. Ask your questions."

"What is your name? When did you arrive on Earth?" Ethan asked as he prepared to write down on the notepad.

"I am Voracious, I arrived on Terra as the rest of the universe calls it during your second World War. I landed in the place you call Norway and greatly enjoyed feeding on your kind. But those Nazis managed to capture me and started studying me. They fed me plenty of humans, they were not shy about it." Voracious explained, somehow making the robotic voice sound sinister.

"Okay then," Ethan sighed and started writing on his notepad. "Clearly Patriot is either far more intelligent or more open minded than you." He wrote on his notepad for a minute, "any preference for an animal?"

"Grrr… a lion, I like their golden manes." Voracious answered, but Ethan nodded but immediately realized that it would not be possible.

"I will try my best but chances are you will get a cat with blonde or red hair at most." Ethan answered, giving a shrug. "Okay that was all I needed to know. I will be back soon." He pulled out Voracious and turned off the machine. Then he put Voracious next to Patriot in the freezer and pulled out the non sentient version that Hydra tried to make out of them. He would use it to find the Symbiote's weaknesses.

—------------------------------

Three hours later he was grinning like a madman while in his hidden lab in his apartment. He watched as the non sentient Symbiote reacted to the electrical stimuli.

"Hey!" Felicia called out as she walked in, "what are you working on?"

"I built a device to talk to those sentient blobs." He tapped the notepad next to him. "Everything I learned about them. I was just learning several different ways to kill them, there are actually several easy ones."

Felicia frowned as she read his notes, "well this is terrifying. Do you want me to look for an eagle or a cat?"

"Cat, I already have a line on a disabled eagle. Try to find one that is missing a limb or is dying. I figured out that these Symbiotes have healing chemicals that can repair missing limbs like lizards." Ethan explained as he pulled up a chemical formula on another computer.

"Holy shit! Is this for real? Can we replicate it?" Felicia asked as she started looking over the data and studying the formula. It would be a groundbreaking discovery if they could.

"Yes and no, I figured it is possible but without a guide for the regeneration process it would just create a monster." He absentmindedly typed on the keyboard and pulled something up, "sort of like what Doctor Curt Connors did when he became The Lizard." He pulled up his research into The Lizard and showed Connors' research formulas.

"So we need some type of programming that will keep it in line?" Felicia asked, immediately picking up on the issue.

"Yes but that will need extensive testing." Ethan answered, "but I do not have the lab or equipment to do it here. It will have to wait until the research facility is finished." Ethan then looked at the clock, "actually I should leave here in a bit to go talk about that." Ethan started encrypting his files before clicking a button and destroying the symbiote sample. He was done with it.

"Okay, who are you going to talk about it with?" Felicia asked as she leaned back. Getting ready to walk out.

"Fisk," Ethan answered as he stood up, "I need his help to build a facility without the workers asking questions about the off-the-books underground facilities." Ethan then walked over to a metal cabinet that had a hand scanner. There was a beep as he scanned his hand and then opened it.

Inside were several tubes with labels. He looked through them and pulled out the one labeled, 'NY, Queens Site 42 Plan'. It was in a gray tube and Ethan slung it over his shoulder. "I will probably be out late, there are leftovers in the fridge."
