Chapter 39 - Life's shit

In this space, their two parts of the world connect as one. Black and white become gray.

While Astro is crying after what she just read, Moon says, "I don't need to be saved. Astro, look at me."

Astro turns around to look at Moon.

He continues, "You may have read alittle about me and think I am some pitiful person that needs your help, and you are right. I need help, but I don't want it."

She shouted, "What do you mean?!"

He says, "You probably wouldn't expect these words from me, but humans are fragile. They are very fragile. It sucks. One word can hurt and cut deep, harder than a knife. Love is one. The reason I am afraid of someone loving me is the fact that everything will change. Love brings change. I fear change. I don't want to be alone, but on the other hand, I am fine with being all alone. What fear I can't run away from is everything changing because I have no past, so how can I look forward to a future when all I know is the present?"

Astro runs to Moon and says, "I don't know."

She stops just infront of him and continues, "I don't know at all. I am not all-knowing. No god is all-knowing. We say that to humans to make them easier to predict while giving them fear and doubt. The human world is only barely as it is because of you. Without your choice, I wouldn't be here, nor would we have to meet. That in itself is change, and you made that decision as far as I know. You have been taking risks just fine as it is. So why not continue with it? You are changing every day."

He shouts, "How would you know?! You are just some god?! What do you know about me?! What do you know about humans? You don't look at me."

Astro grabs Moon's face and stares him in the eyes.

None of them say a word for a minute.

She says, "Fine, I vow to look at you forever from here on out. I swear on my mana core."

Astro feels a sharp pain in her heart. This makes her fall to the ground.

Moon catches her and asks, "What's wrong? Are you ok?"

Astro explains, "Promises and vows are strong on gods just like contracts. Breaking them will lead to horrible consequences. For example, losing some skills, abilities, authorities, and in worst cases, loss of divinity or life. It is a very big price to pay."

A ring of mana forms around her heart.

Moon thinks back to why Jophiel was angered and worried.

"Don't risk your life for me. I can't handle it. I already owe more than I can give to others!" he shouted

Astro says, "I lost my sister and now I don't want to lose you since you are right infront of me. I am tired of how we gods are supposed to be the best when we aren't. They are fake and proud people. They are worse than humans."

Astro lets go of Moon's face. Moon helps lead her to the ground.

He asks, "How can I help you? Let me ease the burden I put on you."

Astro says, "I can't make you do that. I bought you here selfishly. I wanted to form a contract that would allow me to get more power since we would be connected, but..."

Moon shouts, "But... What!"

She says in a tired tone, "I don't want to use you, too. It's not fair."

Moon shouts, "It's not fair! Nothing has been fair! I was supposed to get power. I was supposed to be born into a happy, loving family, and yet I wasn't. I know nothing. Nothing in this world is fair."

Astro says, "I know that's why I will be fair to you. I will give you all my power instead. You will become a god. Space, the stars, and the cosmos will all be yours. I will rewrite you, and you will be able to live as a new you. Your wish will finally come true."

Moon shouts, "To hell with that. This isn't your price to pay. I don't want power at the cost of your life. I finally get you to look at me, and it's only at death. Fuck that! Let's make the damn contract!"

Astro says, "No. Just take my power. It's simpler."

Moon says, "I will take this burden with you. It's my fault in the first place."

Astro's eyes open wide, and she says, "Stubborn till the end. Fine, just make a vow and I will make one that connects, but you have to agree, more like both sides."

Moon says, "I will take on some of your burdens with me. I will not let you go. I promise this, no, I vow this."

Astro says, "I will share with this human. I will look and always be with him while I can. I will do everything I can to make him complete as a human. I vow this."

A huge tree from the ground grows from the ground and says, "I will be overseeing this contract and will make them pay an equal cost as it is on my soil."

Astro looks at the tree and says, "Are you the will of Earth?"

The tree says, "Yes, I am Gaia. The mother of all life on earth and the will of the earth. Now I don't oversee all contracts on earth because I don't have the time, but this one is special."

She continues, "Moon, you owe nothing in this contract as you are someone I owe, so instead I will give you a gift and you will be exempt from this. But you, Astro, are a different story. You are a god on my soil. I should punish you for just that, but Moon wouldn't like that right now. Astro, your payment will be, instead of just a quarter of your current power, going to him. It will be half, and you will take on a quest for me. I'll let you know the details at a later time."

A human tree type silhouette comes out of the tree and kisses Moon on the head.

Both of them leave the mind space.

Moon wakes up, and the barrier is now gone.

Moon pulls his head back and screams and pain. He blinks, and his eye color has changed to purple.
