Lian Manman found it a bit strange, so she quickened her pace, lifted the curtain, and stepped into the east room.
Lady Zhang and Lian Zhizhi were sitting on the kang, and between the two of them, there were a few fluffy little yellow bundles slowly squirming.
"Ah! The chicks have hatched!" Lian Manman immediately exclaimed with joy.
She hurried to the edge of the kang, leaning over to take a closer look.
Five fluffy little chicks, each no bigger than her fist, huddled in the sunny patch on the kang, their tender yellow beaks letting out soft cheeping sounds.
"The chicks have hatched, what about the goslings?" Lian Manman asked as she glanced toward the far end of the kang.
In the shadow near the wooden barrier, the feathered mother hen was still dutifully perched in the nest. Until all the eggs in the nest were hatched, the devoted hen would not leave.
