Chapter 92 - 40

I roamed the halls quietly, carefully, keeping an eye out for both the toddler and any potential enemy. I checked every room I passed by, every corner. I looked under desks and tables and a few occasional beds. I eeked behind doors, inside wardrobes. I was determined to find this kid no matter how long I had to look. "Ava..." I whispered to myself, curious. A girl toddler. What could that villain bastard possibly want with her? She was just an innocent child! I suddenly froze in my tracks, listening. I could hear soft sniffling coming from somewhere nearby, shaky breaths. I resumed walking, but this time slower, careful. I had a good guess of who it was. "Hello?" I called out softly, rounding the corner. And there she was. A girl. A toddler. The toddler. She was easily older than William by at least a year, just a hair bit taller. She had curled in on herself, knees to her chest, arms folded, face buried in her arms. Her wavy hair was a muted, blue-green color, one that reminded me of mist over water. Her skin was a rich, chocolatey brown. And her little body was trembling and shaking. I approached cautiously, kneeling next to her but maintaining a respectful distance. I noticed that she also had a small but thick-ish, light blue tail wrapped around her legs, and a pair of slightly darker blue, feathered wings wrapped around her front, creating a small cocoon or bubble of her own space. There were fluffy, somewhat floppy, white ears pinned backward on either side of her head. She wasn't just any random toddler. She was a hybrid. She was a hybrid that was crying, trembling, probably terrified and alone, unaware she was about to be saved and rescued and taken far far away from here and cared for properly.
