Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Bond Between a Girl, a Fish and a Rat

Alix's face scrunched as she awoke. The floor felt rough and cold. Moreso than dirt should feel. She opened her eyes but she still could not see. She was certain that she had opened her eyes and yet...

Nothing.

"Strange."

She let go of her face and stood up. She began to scan her surroundings more intently. "Did my spell work?" Alix whispered. It wasn't like she was being secretive but she just felt that it was in her best interest to whisper. She had no idea why sh-

"Excuse me?" A deep voice called out curiously. Alix could not tell from where the voice had arisen. She spun around in a circle trying to find the owner of the voice. "You'll never find me by looking down there. Try up." The voice was suddenly playful sounding like it was enjoying watching Alix. Alix was never one for hesitation so she decided to look up.

When she looked up she saw the blue sky instead of a person. There were no clouds in the sky. In fact, she couldn't even see the Blaze or the sun which should could normally see at this time of day. Wait was it even daytime when she was awake? It was somewhere around the late afternoon so it should have started getting dark by now. Yet there was no sign of the moon.

"What the?"

"Oops! Did I tell you to look up? I apologize my dear I meant out." Alix was confused. "Out?"

She looked forward and her face paled as she finally laid eyes on her once unseen acquaintance. Short, dark blue hair with dark skin and even a beauty mark on the face. The face was not the thing that scared Alix, however, as she stared into the giant's eyes. They were black where they should be white with deeply crimson pupils. And the pair of beige horns that protruded out of the hair like those of a bull.

Alix was currently face to face with a giant demon.

"Greetings, friend!" The demon's playful tone was now piercing to the girl as she flinched at every word. "Might you tell me how you found my humble abode?"

Alix shot up. She was in her bed. She frantically scanned the room for any traces of the demon but saw no sign of him.

"Ya good, Lexi?" Alix felt comfort from Mo's voice as she breathed deeply to calm herself. "Yeah. I seemed to have had a nightmare." Alix looked to Mo's desk but did not see him.

"Over here!" Alix turned to the end of her bed and noticed a fish swimming in a small floating orb of dark water. "How are you doing that?" Alix was genuinely caught off guard. This seemed to amuse the fish as he proudly smirked. "Just a little manipulation of the Abyssal Sea. No big deal." Mo tried to play off his own excitement but was not doing a very good job.

"Interesting. Can you move around? How long can you stay like that?" Mo moved the water closer to Alix. "There's the answer to yer first question. As for how long, I've been like this for around twenty minutes now so it might be-GAH!!" The structure of the water that Mo was flying in suddenly wavered and collapsed falling onto the girl's bed and sending the fish down with it.

Alix nodded at the fish on her bed, "About twenty minutes then. Good to know." Alix began to move to change the sheets but notice that there was surprisingly no wetness in the area Mo fell. "Hmm?" Mo embarrassingly flopped around to face Alix. "What is it?"

"The Abyssal Seal left no remnants on my bed. It is almost as if it never spilled?" Mo quickly scanned the sheets and noticed that the girl was correct. "Huh, weird." Alix's face twisted. "Weird? You don't know why your ability leaves no mark on the world."

"Nope."

"And that doesn't concern you?"

"Why would it? I can use it just fine without that knowledge." Alixwas displeased with Mo's attitude. 'Just like the Mind Slave and Holiday." Alix sighed in disappointment. "Anyway, how did I get home? Did my spell work on Felix?" Alix picked Mo up and laid him next to her.

"The spell worked. Felix was actually the one that brought ya back here!" Mo made himself a bit more comfortable as he moved to the pillow. "Felix brought me here? Did he drag me?"

"Nah, he lifted ya and carried ya home."

"He what!" Alix shouted. "He carried ya home. It was pretty funny to see honestly. He even left ya on the doorstep, knocked on the door and ran away. Ya shoulda seen it!" Mo began to laugh as he recalled the scene.

In comparison, Alix was amazed and excited. "Omnia Nexus worked! It even made a rat strong enough to lift me up and carry me all the way home. We had been around a ten minute walk away so it had to have been even longer with those little legs of his." Alix's eyes shined.

"Fascinating."

'I'm glad that it made you happy, Pwetty Giant!" Alix jumped slightly suddenly hearing the rat's voice. 'I see that you can now also speak to me telepathically."

'Yer not the only one he can speak to." Mo joined into the conversation. Alix placed her hand to her chin and smiled. 'So we can all converse this way. I wonder where this ability comes from? I'll need to study the spell more."

'Shouldn't ya know more about yer own spell?" Mo tauntingly asked. Alix rolled her eyes. 'This is different. Sorcery spells are all based on theories so we sorcerers need to further use and study the spell to understand it's uses. Unlike your INNATE ABILITY." Mo pulled his lips tight and shrugged.

'Just? sayin."

'How are you feeling Felix?"

'I feel great!" She couldn't see him but Alix could tell that the rat was likely jumping in excitement. 'I'm stwonga and fasta than all of my bwothas. It's amazing!" Alix reached over to the side of her bed pulling out a notebook and a pencil. She flipped to a page and labled it, "Omina Nexus Effects" and began to write that improved physicality was one of the effects.

After finishing Alix asked, 'Anything else?"

'Hmmm. Oh! I'm betta at standing on two legs now! Watch!"

'Felix I can't-" Alix started to say but stopped as within her mind she could suddenly see from the rat's eyes. He was running around bipedal to show off his new balance.

'Amazing!" Alix said unconsciously. 'I know right!" Alix quickly jotted down this information within her notebook. "Vision transference is possible to some extent. Further testing may be required." Alix nodded satisfied.

'Great job Felix. You have been of great assistance!" Alix could see Felix jump excitedly. 'Yay! Oooh, I wanted to ask something?" Alix lifted an eyebrow. 'What did you want to ask?"

Felix pointed down to his chest. 'What is this white line that comes out of my chest? Do you have one too?" Alix quickly looked down to her own chest and noticed that of the four strings two were now silver. 'So the spell is somehow connected to these strings. Well, they are at least affected by the spell.'

Alix gently strummed each of the strings to see if they would feel different and discovered that she could only touch to two silver ones. She was still confused by these things but did not have enough information to make any conclusions about them. She sighed.

'You don't have to worry about it Felix. It just reminds us that we are connected. Like friends."

'It shows that we're fwiends?" Felix requested confirmation. 'Yes Felix. That is why it goes from you to me and the inverse as well."

'COOOL! Then can you do this with the west of my family?" Mo immediately shouted. "NO! Please say no Lexi! I already can't handle one rat how am I supposed to deal with multiple?!" Alix considered for a second before responding.

'Sure! I need to practice a few more things anyway. I can't be passing out every time I use the spell. Though I do not believe the spell itself is what made me pass out." Alix thought about the casting of the spell. 'The spell-script is probably what made me lose my consciousness. I need to try to lessen the burden it places on my body.' Alix was pulled out of her own thoughts as Felix began to cheer.

'Woohoo! Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I know that you pwomised to make me the swongest but I don't want my family to feel left out of something this fun!" Alix chuckled. The rat's adorable excitement always seemed to raise her mood. 'That promise was made between the two of us, so it can be altered by us as well." Alix smiled as the rat began to run down the street.

'I'm gonna go tell them now! We'll be there is a second!" Alix's eye shot wide and she replied almost screaming. 'DON'T COME HERE!" Felix stopped running confused. 'Then where-"

'Meet me in the park tomorrow. We can do it there. Besides, They may also like to run around after getting stronger." Felix's face relaxed as he come to an understanding. 'Ooooh, I get it. Then we'll meet you there!" With that the connection seemed to fade. Alix breathed out.

'I do not wish to awaken to a room full of rats again.' She shivered as she remember that morning. While laying with her eyes closed she felt something to her side. It wasn't anything physical but it was noticeable. She looked over to her side and was greeted to Mo's upset gaze.

"More rats? Really!? One wasn't enough!" Alix met the fish's eyes before rolling over. Mo was appalled. "Are ya ignoring me?! I should have some say in this! Hey! LEXI!"

The fish continued to try to get the girl's attention late into the night to no avail.
