Amidst the flames, a small hand raises, and Durin leans down, letting this small hand caress his aged face.
"Mr. Durin... you are as gentle as everyone says."
In silence, Durin looks around, seeing countless spiritual bodies, all appearing as children. Durin has forgotten when he saved them or why they ultimately perished in places unknown to him.
No matter how skilled the assassins of the High Tower, they can't possibly kill all the world's sinners. Some children are saved today, but what about tomorrow, the day after?
The Eastern Land and Southern Tai may be vast, but what about the children on lands beyond the Eastern Land and Southern Tai? They are saved by Durin today, only to return home and die for various reasons. But why?
Simply because mortal strength has its limits.
