"Yue Ning? Yue Ning?" Yue Chen desperately called out. It was only after a few seconds she found out the call had been disconnected.
"This bitch! What gives her the right to disconnect the call?" Yue Chen asked, trying to call her again, only to discover that she had been blocked.
"What the?" Yue Chen was stupefied as she looked at her phone.
"I should probably go to Huo Feng's place. How dare that lowly bitch treat me this way?" Yue Chen muttered to herself, before angrily leaving the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Yue Ning who was been currently cursed out laid on her bed while trying to find out how she could get novels.
"Bingo! Huo Yan. She is a novel freak, she would know about novels," Yue Ning immediately sat up, happy with the development.
But then her mood dampened instantly.
"Oh, I don't have her number, I guess this has to be on hold. Curse this blasted system," she murmured to herself.
'Host, you are forgetting that I can hear you,' the system's voice caused Yue Ning to jolt out of fear.
"I thought you were in sleep mode, you scared me," Yue Ning breathed out while holding her chest.
'I was in sleep mode, but I didn't let you know when I rebooted, I could hear you badmouthing me, I think you are forgetting what sort of position you are in now,' the system replied with a cocky tone.
"You should be worried about yourself, you also seemed to have forgotten how I outwitted you," Yue Ning replied with a scoff. She wasn't one to be trifled with as well.
While the system was preparing to give her a rebuttal, Yue Ning's phone rang. Lo and behold, it was the solution to her predicament, Huo Yan.
"Sister-in-law, I delivered the food to my brother, and trust me when I say he enjoyed it. Perhaps, you can do more of this for him," Huo Yan informed her with a squeak.
"That's great, but I need your help now," Yue Ning begged.
"What do you want? I am always happy to help," Huo Yan asked, eager to help out.
"I need novels," Yue Ning breathed out.
"That's easy, which types do you need? I have romance, I have sci-fi, I have...."
"I need one with horror, and it should be written by a lesser known author," Yue Ning cut her off. She didn't know if Huo Yan could get it, but she could only pin her hopes on her.
"You should have said so from the start, I have one. I will have it delivered tomorrow, if that's fine by you?" Huo Yan asked.
She didn't know why Yue Ning had her specifications for the novel, but she trusted her, and hence, she didn't ask questions.
"Of course. Thank you Yanyan, you are truly a lifesaver," Yue Ning genuinely thanked her.
This caused the younger girl's cheeks to turn crimson red.
"Goodbye Sister-in-law, see you tomorrow," she greeted Yue Ning, before she hastily disconnected the call.
"Sister-in-law praised me. Yay!" She squealed while twirling.
"Now that has been settled, I can finally sleep peacefully," Yue Ning chuckled satisfactorily before falling to bed.
Just as she shut her eyes, a notification pinged."
"What is it now?" She groaned, before giving the command.
A white holographic panel appeared before her, and she noticed that she had a new mission.
"Seriously? A new mission already? Can't I get a break?" Yue Ning questioned tiredly.
'I am sorry host, it isn't my fault. Would you like to spend ten points to find out what your mission is?' After apologizing, the system coldly asked. It turns out that its apology wasn't genuine.
Yue Ning let out an exasperated sigh before muttering a yes. As much as she wanted to guard her points, there was no way she couldn't find out what the mission is. She needed those extra points.
As her words fell, the mission was shown.
[Mission: Make Madam Huo like you.]
'You must make her like yourself within any two-hour encounter, but you have only three days to trigger and complete this task' The mission read.
Yue Ning's eyes popped out when she saw that.
"You are out to kill me," she murmured, hands on her forehead.
'I suggest the host continues reading,' the system coldly said to her.
[Points to be allocated: Ten thousand points]
[Start time: Tomorrow]
As Yue Ning read through it, her mouth fell. The points were mouthwatering. They would be enough for her to unlock skills, and she would still have a few left.
But how can she complete this mission when she had never even met the Old Madam.
In the novel, Huo Feng made sure that Yue Ning never met his grandmother, and with Yue Chen's influence, a rumor spread.
They claimed that Yue Ning despised the old lady, and this was the reason for her refusal. This caused the old lady to develop a deep-rooted hatred for the original character.
"System, you know you just gave me the toughest mission, and yet you claim it is the beginners' level. Tell me you are trying to get me killed," Yue bit her lips.
'I am not trying to get you killed. I am just doing my job, these missions have been included in my software, and my duty is to let you know about it,' the system patiently explained to her.
"Is there a way I can speak with your developers? I promise I only want to speak with them," Yue Ning asked.
The system would be a fool to believe her words, but thankfully, there was no way she could get in touch with the developers, and the system made it clear to her.
"Bummer, I really wanted to talk to them," Yue Ning sighed disappointedly.
'As if I believe you,' the system scoffed.
Yue Ning didn't bother to give it a reply. She was currently brainstorming on ways in which she could meet with Old Madam Huo.
While she was in thoughts, Huo Feng walked into the condo.
He looked around the living room, surprised that it was empty.
"Is she in her room?" He asked himself, and was about to go to her room when he stopped in her tracks.
"Wait a minute, what am I even doing? I must be crazy," he shook his head before he walked to his room.
There was no way he cared about her, he was only intrigued by her change in character ----- or so he thought to himself.
