Chapter 17 - Lords of Justice [3]

Peter stood in the aircraft room with the other members who were about to go to another dimension to help the other heroes with their problem.

Peter and Batman or Bruce Wayne had understood that what the heroes from the other dimension were trying to say was, "Help us, if you don't want to be the next ones."

This made the two of them explain to the rest of the heroes that if they didn't help, their dimension would be the next one to face whatever might await them there.

And so, everyone agreed to help, but only after they would go and assess the situation in that dimension.

Another thing when Peter first saw the image provided by Batman, he thought he might have seen his own version from that dimension, or at least the version that was created due to his entry into this universe and his connection through the web.

Unfortunately for him, the other Peter Parker (or whoever was behind the mask) was not among them, according to Batman. His version had gone with the rest of the other heroes, while the others had to surrender to the embarrassment to clarify their good intentions and seriousness in asking for help.

The heroes accompanying Peter were Flash, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Shazam, and Shiera Hall, known as Hawkwoman. Batman would join soon, along with Wonder Woman and the heroes from the other dimension.

Someone placed their hand on Peter's shoulder. It was Barry Allen, known as Flash.

"Hey, buddy, what's wrong? You look a little stiff, not like you," Flash said, as he placed his right hand around Peter's neck. Flash was a bit taller than Peter.

Before, Flash seemed to tower over Peter, but now it seemed Peter had gained a little height, something Barry had noticed.

"Hey, you seem like you've grown a bit," Flash said.

Peter gave him a sarcastic look. "What do you mean? Should I understand what you're saying?"

Flash frowned. "Damn, man, you didn't have to say that."

"Would I miss the fun of seeing you annoyed all day from your quick thinking? Never!" Peter replied, laughing at Barry, imagining Barry's face under the mask.

They both felt the bones in their necks crack as someone grabbed them in a neck hold.

"Hey, guys, who are we talking about here?" a voice interrupted.

Peter tried to use his superpower to break free from the hold, but it was in vain. The person who had done it was Shazam, and his powers could rival, or perhaps even surpass, Superman.

Flash repeatedly punched Shazam's arm and spoke with difficulty. "Sh… ZAM… Air."

Shazam noticed and quickly released them. "Hey, sorry, I didn't mean it. Sometimes the excitement gets the best of me."

Flash began massaging his neck, and Peter did the same, though it seemed Flash was in worse shape than Peter. That's because Peter's physical strength was greater than Flash's, but Flash healed faster due to his abilities.

Peter spoke as he looked at the large, excited man beside them. "Why are you so happy?"

Shazam shouted excitedly, "Are you kidding me? We're going to another dimension, a dimension where we have counterparts! Isn't that thrilling? I can't wait to meet my twin!"

For a brief moment, Peter thought of Wade in Shazam's place. It sounded like something Wade would say, but in a more twisted way.

"There's nothing special about that. Just think of it as a 'What if,'" Flash chimed in.

Shazam looked at him with a frown. "For you, it's not special because you've traveled to many other dimensions, but for me, this is the first time."

Flash shrugged. "Maybe I do it too much."

"At least Spider-Man agrees with me," Flash pointed to Peter, who looked at him in surprise.

"What are you talking about, my friend? Traveling through dimensions and saving the day? For me, it's just Saturday," Peter responded with a smile under his mask.

"You guys really aren't fun," Shazam muttered as he walked away from the two, while they both laughed.

Flash looked at Peter. "I didn't know that."

Peter raised an eyebrow under his mask, making his mechanical lenses try to move with the same expression, though he didn't quite understand Flash's meaning. "What?"

"I mean, traveling through dimensions and everything. It's true it's not as impossible as it used to be, but the technology or powers that allow for it are still pretty rare."

"What can I say, I have very smart villains, and I often get caught up in problems that aren't mine," Peter said with a sigh, shrugging.

Flash smiled, patting Peter's shoulder. "I really get what you mean. Some days you just want to sit back and relax, and then, out of nowhere, a problem comes at you."

Peter nodded in agreement. "That's pretty much our life, though the villains get more annoying with time."

Peter's words came as he remembered Doctor Octopus, who had taken control of his body, making the cracks in his life even worse, just so Peter could reach his limit in his old world.

"Yeah, some of them are really annoying, but the most annoying are what we consider our arch-nemeses, like the Joker for Batman, Luthor for Superman, and Zoom for me," Flash said with complete sarcasm in his voice.

Peter replied without thinking, "And Green Goblin for me."

Flash raised an eyebrow. "Green Goblin? I've never heard of him."

Peter was surprised by his slip-up, remembering that this world didn't have Green Goblin. He tried to fix his mistake, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, though it was something bearable.

The pain was brief, and just as fast as it came, it disappeared, but he felt it.

Flash was about to ask Peter if he was okay when the doors opened, and Batman and Wonder Woman entered, along with the heroes from the other dimension.

Flash quickly forgot about Peter's pain, as his focus shifted to Batman, who didn't say anything but allowed Hawkwoman from the other dimension to step forward. She pressed a small device on her wrist, opening a circular portal with a blue glow. Hawkwoman, followed by the rest of the heroes from the other dimension, stepped through, followed by Wonder Woman, Shazam, Flash, Shiera, then Peter, followed by Black Canary, and finally Batman with Green Arrow.
