Chapter 330, Remember What You Said
The night was deep.
Outside, the sound of insects chirping filled the air.
Wu Heng lay on the bed, his hand gently stroking Minnie's abdomen.
The skin of the little rabbit girl was taut, vibrant, and as smooth as silk.
Moving upward, his hand felt soft and full in his palm.
Minnie turned on her side, her eyes full of tenderness as she whispered, "Master, it's so nice to have you."
"Why are you saying this?"
Minnie chuckled and lay back, saying, "I just feel really lucky. Back then, among so many slaves, you picked me. Now, I get to eat good food, wear pretty clothes, and live in a big house. I never even dared to dream of this." She crossed her arms behind her head, seemingly lost in thought.
At that time, Wu Heng needed someone to cook and someone to handle accounts.
Minnie and Andviel stepped forward.
From the slaves bought from Madam Slater, they chose to follow him.
Looking back, it was a mutual choice.
And now, perhaps due to a better diet and living environment, both Minnie and Andviel were becoming more beautiful by the day.
On Gold-Silver Island, they were rare beauties.
Wu Heng smiled, "I'm lucky to have chosen you two as well."
"Aw~! Master, you're so good to me!" Minnie snuggled closer.
Wu Heng lightly patted her waist, holding her close, then added, "By the way, I have a task for you."
"Huh? What task?" Minnie lifted her head from his embrace.
"On the third floor, there's a room for receiving intelligence."
"Oh, I know that room. Do you need it cleaned?" Minnie asked.
"No, that room holds an important tool for my communication with the pirates. From now on, when you're free, check the messages recorded by the skeleton there. If there's anything important or urgent, let me know immediately," Wu Heng explained.
It was because of the incident with Sheila Grey being surrounded by pirates.
Wu Heng thought it would be better if Minnie regularly checked the messages to avoid missing anything critical.
Of course, sometimes, he was in the zombie world, and Minnie couldn't reach him.
But when he returned, he'd get the information right away.
"Oh, alright!" Minnie agreed instantly and then asked, "Pirates, huh? Are those people scary?"
"They're not exactly good people."
"Can they stretch their arms?"
"Why do you say that?"
"It's in the comics, where they use three swords."
"That's all fake. Real pirates are pretty nasty. Be cautious around them," Wu Heng said.
"Oh, got it!" Minnie replied, then flipped over and sat on him.
"Aren't you going to sleep?"
"Hehe, the fox lady isn't here tonight. I'm staying up all night."
Wu Heng held her by the waist. "You've got a lot of energy."
"Hehe!"
...…
The next morning.
Andviel came downstairs and saw Minnie emerging from the kitchen.
"Good morning, Sister Veil."
Andviel gave her a look, saying, "Being so polite today—you weren't badmouthing me last night, were you?"
"Of course not! You're my best friend." Minnie leaned on her.
Andviel held her at arm's length and said, "Wasn't it just last night you were saying you'd stay up all night since the fox lady wasn't around?"
Minnie froze momentarily, then mumbled, "Oh, that just slipped out. You know, I get excited and say things without thinking. We're best friends."
"We're not close at all."
"We are! I'll make you something tasty tonight."
Minnie clung to Andviel's arm, apologizing sweetly.
Shortly after, Wu Heng came down from upstairs.
He glanced at the two bickering and said, "Veil, we're heading to the Guild together."
"Yes, Master."
Breakfast was prepared.
They all sat down to eat together.
Wu Heng and Andviel then left for the Guild.
...…
In the Steward's study.
Wu Heng knocked lightly on the door, then entered upon hearing a response.
The elegant elf steward sat behind the desk, looking no worse for wear despite his recent return from the sea.
Deputy Steward Sheila Grey sat on the sofa to the side, nodding at Wu Heng as he entered.
"Take a seat," Imiro said.
Wu Heng sat across from Sheila Grey.
Imiro continued, "Sheila Grey told me what happened yesterday. You did well, rescuing Guild members and taking down two pirate captains. I'll make a note of it in your record."
"Thank you, Steward," Wu Heng replied.
Though he didn't care much for records, a good one wasn't a bad thing.
"Did you prepare a report?"
"I did!" Wu Heng handed over the report.
Imiro glanced over it, set it aside, and said, "Alright, for now, avoid going to sea. I'll be organizing an internal inspection over the next few days."
"Understood," they both replied.
"Alright, Sheila Grey, you can go. Wu Heng, stay for a moment." Sheila Grey stood, saluted, and left, winking at Wu Heng on her way out.
After the door closed,
Imiro continued, "Tell me the events again."
Wu Heng nodded and recounted receiving the intelligence from Philipa and heading out to rescue.
Imiro pondered for a moment, then asked, "Did that pirate girl you placed know where the pirates got their intel?"
Knowing the exact movements of Guild ships wasn't something ordinary pirates could manage.
At the very least, Imiro doubted that the Poison Blade and Red Crown pirate crews had that capability.
Clearly, he suspected someone had provided the information.
Wu Heng thought for a moment and replied, "She wasn't sure. She said she went to recruit sailors and overheard their conversation."
Then he added, "But we did find one of those blank envelopes on a body."
Imiro's eyes narrowed instantly. "The blank envelopes again?"
"It's possible. The writing on the envelope was gone, so I can't say if it's related to this incident," Wu Heng said.
Imiro frowned, thought for a moment, then said, "I understand. You and that pirate girl did well. She should continue her efforts, and the Guild will record it and provide some funding for her future development."
"Alright."
"Alright, you can go now. I'll notify you if anything comes up."
Wu Heng saluted and left the room.
...…
Back in his study.
Andviel was giving the little owl a bath.
Seeing Wu Heng return,
she smiled and said, "Everyone at the Guild is talking about you."
"What about?"
"That you single-handedly rescued Deputy Steward Sheila Grey's group. They're saying your strength is second only to Steward Imiro," Andviel said as she petted the owl.
"So the Guild knows?"
"Yes, it's quite the buzz," Andviel said with a proud smile.
"They'll forget in a few days." Wu Heng tidied his things and said, "Veil, I'll head home for now. If there's nothing in the afternoon, I'll come back early."
"Yes, Master."
Wu Heng left the study.
In the hall, sure enough, several people greeted him from a distance.
It was as if he'd suddenly become famous.
He nodded back and quickly left the Guild, heading home.
...…
Returning home around noon.
He had lunch with Minnie and then went upstairs.
Even though Minnie had said there was nothing important in the radio's logbook, he went in to check himself.
There was indeed nothing of importance, mostly trivial talk.
It seemed Philipa had turned the radio into a venting outlet, sharing every little issue over the microphone.
Confirming there was no valuable intelligence,
he continued to the fourth floor, entering the alchemy room.
He set aside the materials he'd purchased, then approached the shelves to check his finished potions.
This time, aside from the usual potions he needed,
there were also eight Level 1 corpse-core potions.
The production rate was quite efficient.
It hadn't been long since he'd brought supplies back from the military market.
He stored the potions and left the room.
In the study, he opened the portal to the zombie world.
...…
At the old factory district, in the dormitory.
Wu Heng released Xiaoxiao, letting her go find her mother.
He went to the window and looked outside.
Both inside and outside the factory area, construction was underway. Outside the walls and defenses, the planned market was being built.
Excavators were digging foundations, and many people were clearing out the waist-high weeds.
Just then, Qi Hancai walked by below. Wu Heng took out his radio, pressed the button, and said, "Qi Hancai, come up here."
"Roger!"
Qi Hancai responded and quickly made her way upstairs.
Soon, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in!"
The door opened, and Qi Hancai poked her head in.
Seeing only Wu Heng and the two servants, she immediately seemed a bit nervous.
She lowered her head slightly, glancing at the bed, then back at him.
"How's life here?" Wu Heng asked.
"Huh?" Qi Hancai looked up, momentarily surprised, then replied, "Pretty good."
Wu Heng looked at her and said, "Do you remember I told you there's a technique for consuming corpse cores?"
Hearing this, Qi Hancai felt her heart race.
"I remember!"
"If you're willing to stay here and can promise not to disclose this, I can provide you with the kind of corpse cores that have no side effects."
