Having made his plan, Yue Feng started to get busy!
He moved all the big and small stones from the surrounding area, stacking them within the designated area to form a rudimentary shape. Once that took form, he stopped, picked up his axe, and headed to the edge of the Pine Forest to chop wood.
Before personally swinging the axe for the first time, Yue Feng had no experience of chopping wood with such a tool, but after trying, he found it not too difficult!
The pines that grew in high latitudes, though hard, also had a certain brittleness. After swinging mightily and chopping more than ten blows in succession, he could carve a large notch into the trunk. Changing direction and chopping a few more times, a pine trunk as thick as a bowl then fell.
He trimmed the top of the tree simply, and a smooth, well-proportioned piece of timber was ready.
