After solving three consecutive logic puzzles, the photo shoot session finally came to an end.
"I'm going to the bathroom for a moment, I'll be back quickly." said Takashi Matsuo, and after taking his phone out of his pocket, he hurriedly left the recording set.
Seeing his figure move away, Lin Yi couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, thinking to himself: After showing such impressive reasoning skills, he still decides to commit the offense right under everyone's nose.
I won't talk about anything else, just this act, I must admit, I admire your courage.
With the photo shoot temporarily over, Kogoro Mouri let out a long sigh of relief and approached Lin Yi, speaking quietly: "Good job... Lin Yi, if it weren't for..."
Before Kogoro Mouri could finish his sentence, Lin Yi raised his hand and pointed to the microphone attached to the collar of his shirt, signaling him to stop talking.
Kogoro Mouri finally reacted, realizing that if he spoke here, the sound technician would also hear him, so he stopped abruptly.
"You did very well, you didn't let me down. Very good, very good." he said, pretending to pat him on the shoulder.
Kogoro Mouri's unreliable attitude left Lin Yi speechless.
When he saw Kogoro Mouri's bursts of skill before, he had wondered if maybe Mouri was pretending to be a fool, always playing the stupid role when he actually knew more than he let on.
But after spending a long time with him, Lin Yi realized that Kogoro Mouri wasn't pretending to be dumb, he really was.
You can't say he's stupid, more like he has a pretty relaxed mindset.
Maybe it's because he rented a shop on the first floor, so even though he doesn't work, he still has income.
That's why his attitude toward life is incredibly positive.
When he has nothing to do, he spends his time drinking, smoking, and betting on horse races.
Occasionally he stays up late, and the next day he has no energy for anything.
This reminded Lin Yi of his own high school summer, when he would wake up, eat, play video games, fall asleep when tired, wake up hungry, eat, play more, and then sleep again. Time didn't matter at all.
A messy lifestyle can make a person decadent.
Kogoro Mouri is a clear example of that, he's ruined himself.
No matter how well he did in the Police Department in the past, that's history now. If you keep living irresponsibly, even a good bowl of soup can spoil.
Kogoro Mouri, from being an outstanding professional, has become a decadent man, and judging by what he's been through, it's not hard to understand.
He recently lost his job and is going through a very low emotional phase.
Eri, without worrying about her injured leg, lovingly prepared a meal for Kogoro Mouri, but he, unable to control or express his emotions, yelled at her: "With this weather, it would be better to rest well," trying to get Eri to rest instead of cooking for him.
The result, as expected, was that Eri, seeing that he wasn't just ungrateful but yelling at her, got angry, and they started arguing, eventually deciding to separate.
Anyone in that situation would probably explode.
Once frustration explodes, it's like a chain of events: drinking, smoking, staying up late, everything follows, like family visits before the New Year.
With this combo of actions, no matter how talented you are, you'll end up being a decadent person.
Once you fall into that state of decadence, getting out of it is no easy task.
Most people can't even do the basics, like going to bed early and waking up early, let alone freeing themselves from decadence.
Lin Yi estimates that Kogoro Mouri, after going through so many ups and downs in his life, concluded: "I'm already married, I have a daughter, and there's no lack of food or drink at home, so why should I try so hard? Life is short, I should be a little kinder to myself."
Kogoro Mouri has started living like an old man, no longer interested in anything in particular, doing everything half-heartedly, and leaving success or failure to chance.
But when faced with an urgent situation, like a case involving his friends or family, he becomes serious and goes into professional mode.
Kogoro Mouri was a police officer, so he has a lot of experience solving cases, and when he gets serious, he shows incredible deductive ability. It's not surprising.
However, once the emergency passes, Kogoro Mouri returns to his relaxed lifestyle.
As for why Kogoro Mouri hasn't let his guard down and asked Eri to reconcile... that's even simpler.
You can't even say "I love you" to your mother in front of her.
So how could Kogoro Mouri, who values his pride so much, lower himself to ask Eri to reconcile?
And let's not mention that now Eri has a pretty notable reputation in her field.
His wife is more famous than him.
In a situation like that, asking for reconciliation would be a huge blow to his pride, and everyone would see it.
As a Japanese man with a strong masculine mentality, Kogoro Mouri could never lower himself to ask Eri to reconcile.
During this time, Lin Yi repeatedly observed him, evaluated him, and eventually realized that Kogoro Mouri is a person with "intermittent triumphs, but a life of constant laziness."
With this clear, Lin Yi finally felt confident enough to start making his own plans regarding Kogoro Mouri.
While lost in his thoughts, Takashi Matsuo returned to the recording set.
He was sweating profusely, holding a handkerchief in his hand, wiping off the sweat.
"Hmm?"
Lin Yi let out a sound of doubt intentionally to catch Kogoro Mouri's attention.
"What's wrong?" asked Kogoro Mouri.
"Why is Matsuo-san so soaked in sweat? The amount of sweat... Did he take advantage of his break to run?" Lin Yi asked in a curious tone, leaving a deep impression on Kogoro Mouri, as a clue.
This would be useful later when something happened, and Kogoro Mouri could recall this detail and use it to start his reasoning, avoiding taking a wrong path.
"I didn't expect Matsuo-san to care so much about his health."
Kogoro Mouri commented, a little impressed.
"....."
Lin Yi felt a toothache. Now he was starting to understand Conan's frustration.
Why, after several attempts to give soft clues, did Conan end up just knocking the person out directly? The reason wasn't complicated at all.
"Sorry, Mouri-san, I got a bit delayed."
Takashi Matsuo, wiping the sweat, approached: "Let's continue."
"Don't you need a little rest? You're sweating a lot." Kogoro Mouri kindly suggested.
"Well... just one more minute of rest," Matsuo responded.
"Let me explain the next segment of activities."
Lin Yi said nothing and simply returned to his seat.
