After hanging up the phone, Benno stepped out of the public booth with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. He scanned the surrounding streets to ensure no one was tailing him before heading to a nearby diner to buy breakfast.
Perhaps for those wealthy folks who don't engage in physical labor and only break a sweat in bed or the gym, their breakfast might be lighter.
But for most manual laborers and the youth, breakfast had better include some meat.
Capitalists encouraged meat consumption, too. They devised plenty of methods to get people to buy meat rather than the vegetables that didn't turn as much profit for them.
When Benno returned to the apartment with a bag of food, everyone was just about awake.
