My muscles are still pulsing with the aftermath of the internal war of fighting my beast. My jaw still ached from the sheer force of suppression. Enzo. The bastard had pushed me to the brink, aimed his venom straight at Zendaya, and almost succeeded in shattering my control, in making her fear the very core of my being, of who I truly was.
The memory of her terrified gasp, her wide, horrified eyes, twisted in my gut. I had sworn never to show her that side of me, not like that. The shame left a bitter taste in my mouth.
She whispered about Diana. I could hear the doubt in her voice, and the fear emitting from her sent a sharp pang to my soul. That was Enzo's true victory: planting those insidious seeds in her mind. My arm tightened around her waist, pulling her flush against me, my other hand cupping her delicate cheek. I needed her to feel my conviction, my absolute certainty.
