When Flain arrived in the classroom, he saw a few students entering, whom he joined and took a seat inside. Twenty minutes passed, and there were only 10 students out of 105 in the room, so Flain's theory that poison affrity isn't common was confirmed.
Among his classmates, he didn't see any strong student with a good room except for one. That one was Malay Ydarmi, who had room number 6 and was a pure mage, the son of a Viscount, which is the second lowest noble rank, above a Baron.
Malay is seen as the future head of the Ydarmi family due to his talent and gift for magic, so his father invests a lot in him and he is his favorite son. All these factors came together and allowed him to secure room 6.
