Chapter 114 - A Reunion of Hearts

I stood by the doorway, the warm glow of the lantern lighting up the small entryway of my family's home. My mother and grandfather lingered in the living room, still buzzing with relief and joy. I could hear their low murmurs, and the occasional laugh—sounds I hadn't heard in far too long.

But there was something else I needed to do.

"Mom," I said softly, stepping away from her side. "I'll be right back."

She blinked, concern flickering in her eyes. "Where are you going?"

I managed a small smile. "Lucien's waiting outside."

Her expression shifted—surprise, then curiosity. Then she nodded. "Bring him in, please. I… I'd like to meet him."

Grandpa, seated in his worn armchair, gave a slow nod. "Go on, boy. Don't keep him waiting."

My heart pounded. I'd dreamed of this moment, imagined how my family might react to Lucien. But I never truly believed it could be peaceful.
