"Oh, so that's it..."

Adam was puzzled by this fallen angel. Holy power was a source of energy that should come from God's existence, so how the hell was this guy using that energy? The answer to that, in fact, was quite simple.

Michael.

The realization that Michael had somehow managed to maintain the existence of holy power brought a smile to his face. Adam didn't care who ruled the heavens, but he would be lying if he said he didn't like the idea of Michael being the new leader, as during his exile, the archangel had always been kind to him and his wife.

But that wasn't the reason for his smile. With holy power still existing even after God's death, Adam now had a range of possibilities he'd previously dismissed.

Holy light, energy, and especially, holy swords. If he could get his hands on any of these three, his life could become even easier.

'My memories must have blended too much, because now that I think about it, the initial plot of DXD revolves around Issei being killed by a fallen angel...' He thought, realizing he still had work to do with his memories. 'Damn, I'm surprised the old Adam didn't go completely insane with this information overload.'

Boom!

Ducking as the fallen angel threw a spear at him, Adam was stunned when he turned to see a large hole in his kitchen wall.

'Damn, that's going to be expensive.' He thought irritably, and turning to Dohnaseek, he noticed the dark angel preparing another spear.

"I put power into that one, and yet you were able to dodge it. Interesting." He said with a malicious grin, the light weapon in his hand shifting into a sword. "But I'm afraid your luck ends here. I still have some little demons to exterminate."

Adam narrowed his eyes at that. Seeing a fallen angel act so arrogantly brought back unpleasant memories, which at this point only intensified his irritation.

Fortunately, Adam was no longer the man he was hundreds of years ago; he wouldn't lose his temper over something like this.

Even so, with this arrogant opponent before him, Adam would demonstrate why he was feared on countless battlefields throughout history. A mere unknown fallen angel trying to intimidate him? He, who once sought to kill Lucifer himself, could never fear something like that.

With his knife in hand, Adam exhaled as he prepared himself, his blue eyes fixed on the figure of the dark angel with a calm expression.

Dohnaseek frowned at the human's calmness, but assuming it was merely ignorance from an inferior creature, he simply prepared to attack, the holy power glowing on his sword as he intended to slice his target in two.

"Such insignificant beings." The fallen angel muttered venomously, his grip tightening on the light sword in anticipation. "No wonder Lucifer rebelled!"

Swoosh!

The sword descended toward Adam's head, the slash landing with the tip of the light sword hitting the ground with enough force to cut through it.

But to Dohnaseek's shock, instead of seeing the human's split body, his eyes were met with a blade inches from his eye, his reaction too slow to avoid the counterattack.

!

"AAARGH!" Grabbing his eye as he flapped his wings to retreat, Dohnaseek gritted his teeth as he felt the excruciating pain of his eye being pierced, blood pouring uncontrollably down his cheek.

"Oh..." Adam, who smirked mockingly at the sight, looked at his bloodstained knife with interest. "So beings of light also bleed from human weapons... I thought you were too superior for that."

"Y-You bastard!" The fallen angel growled, and removing his hand from his wounded eye while keeping it shut, he created another light sword, rage evident on his face as he prepared to charge. "I will make-"

"You'll make me regret doing that? I've heard that a thousand times before." Cutting him off, Adam shrugged as he moved to pick up the light sword left on the ground, his fingers gripping the weapon made of holy power with indifferent eyes.

But as soon as his fingers touched the holy light, the sword glowed with energy, its bluish hue shifting to gold with a surge of energy that spread throughout the room for a moment.

"That's new." Adam, surprised by the strange effect, lifted the now golden blade with fascination, blinking as he realized how synchronized he felt with the divine energy energizing the weapon.

But Dohnaseek, seeing this and completely ignoring what just happened, growled at how Adam dismissed his presence, his feet digging into the ground as he prepared to charge.

"Don't underestimate me, human!" Roaring in fury, he charged with his light sword in hand, raising it in anticipation. "Die!"

Bam!

But as he reached Adam, instead of getting the chance to strike, he was stunned when a kick hit his nose with enough force to disorient him, his only eye shutting as he held his face in pain.

"A low-ranking fallen angel so arrogant... What a disgrace."

Swoosh!

Dohnaseek, hearing his opponent's voice, had no time to open his eye as a slash came his way, his arm holding the sword being sliced off in one swift, clean attack.

"AAARG-"

And feeling the pain of losing his limb, he tried to scream, but a well-placed kick to his face pushed him to the ground, the tip of Adam's shoe pressing into his mouth, leaving him only able to make muffled, anguished grunts.

"You know, as the first man, I earned many titles throughout time..." And Adam, indifferent to the fallen angel's anguished state, continued speaking as he prevented him from moving. "The innocent, the most honorable, the most merciful."

Raising the light sword, Adam slowly let its tip sink into the dark angel's shoulder, piercing his flesh and making him writhe in pain.

"But many forget that as the first man, I'm the one who brought sin into this world..." With a grim expression, removing his shoe from Dohnaseek's jaw, Adam crouched beside him, his blue eyes glowing dangerously. "I am indeed merciful, but that mercy extends only to my beloved children. As for you pigeons and little devils... I owe you nothing."

Pulling the blade from his shoulder, Adam watched as the fallen angel's eyes filled with fear when he placed the light blade near his throat. "Your mistake is thinking you're free to do whatever you want..."

With the blade pressing against his throat, Dohnaseek made one last desperate attempt to escape by flapping his wings, only to have Adam cut them off in an instant.

"This is my kingdom, my people, and I'll make that very clear."

"Wait! WAIT!"

Swoosh!

. . .

Outside his house, Adam stood silently as he observed the sliced-up walls from his fight with the fallen angel, his expression weary as he realized he'd have to renovate sooner than expected.

"Should I get a job?" He wondered aloud. His savings were decent, but the old Adam hadn't cared about stockpiling, so after his recent expenses, only 900,000 yen remained.

A few jobs came to mind. With the vast amount of information in his head, he felt he could do well as a teacher... Too bad he'd need a certificate for that.

"That would be the best thing to do."

"Right? Well, then I'll start looking for something tomorrow."

"..."

"..."

Adam, still silently watching his house, narrowed his eyes. He hadn't expected an answer to his question, which caught him off guard.

"Huh?" Turning to see who had responded, he was surprised to find a small girl beside him, her white hair standing out in the night as she licked an ice cream, unfazed by the sight of a house that looked like it had been cut by lightsabers. "...Hello?"

It was a strange situation, one that even Adam couldn't help but feel out of place in. How had this girl snuck up beside him so silently? Did his instincts not consider her a threat?

"..."

And as the girl turned to face him, never stopping her ice cream licking, Adam felt something when their eyes met.

Taking a sniff, Adam quickly recognized the familiar scent. "A demon."

Without fear, he simply stated, which seemed to surprise the girl, who looked at him with curiosity.

"What's your name?" Adam asked calmly.

"...Koneko."

"I see… My name is Adam.

Nice to meet you, Koneko."

It seemed that his plans to stay under the radar for a while had been thwarted by the attack of a damned stinking pigeon.
