Jocelyn Yeager was rejected by Delphine's sharp words. Her expression was indifferent, showing a hint of coldness and aloofness, completely devoid of the naive and carefree demeanor she once had. His face darkened.
"I was reckless today. I won't let this happen again. I hope we can still be friends," he said hoarsely, taking a step back.
Delphine nodded, avoiding his burning gaze.
"The riding outfit is in your size. No one else has worn it," Jocelyn said, withdrawing his gaze and standing up to leave.
As the door closed, his handsome face was framed by the narrowing gap of the door. Watching her slender and slim back, his eyes flashed with a restrained, dark glimmer.
This was his final indulgence and foolishness; from then on, he could move decisively down that irreversible path.
Delphine let out a small sigh of relief after Jocelyn left.
Bessie Leclair was prone to irrationality. If she found out that Delphine met Jocelyn in private, she might lose her mind.
