Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: One-Hit Victory

When he first learned that his class would have two instructors and that one of them was none other than General Instructor Lance from the Pokémon League Yezo was absolutely thrilled, even borderline fanatical. He truly admired Lance. Though not widely known by the general public, those within the inner circles of the League knew exactly how powerful he was.

As for the other instructor… Yezo had never heard of her. Probably some unknown assistant, which wasn't unusual.

At the time, Cynthia was still in the middle of her travels, training and conducting archaeological research all over the regions. She hadn't participated in many tournaments yet and naturally hadn't built a reputation. So, Yezo didn't think much of her and was simply excited for Lance's arrival.

Every trainer has their own focus, and for Yezo, it was the kind of combat style exemplified by someone like Instructor Lance, not the methods taught by his grandmother, Agatha.

He aspired to become a Dark-type Elite Four member not a Ghost-type one like his grandmother.

Still, because it was his own choice to walk this path, not even his grandmother could request Lance to personally coach him one-on-one. So this rare opportunity was very precious.

Usually, the Pokémon Research Academy would only invite an Elite Four-level trainer to provide a week of instruction when students had just advanced to senior class status or were about to graduate.

To most students, that was already a major event. But Yezo didn't think much of it… until he heard Lance himself would be teaching. That, to him, was a huge surprise.

Who would've thought that Instructor Lance would only be staying for a single day?

The next day, he left replaced by the woman standing in front of him now: Cynthia.

When the announcement was made before the first class began, it wasn't just Yezo who felt dissatisfaction. Many of his classmates were also not convinced.

After all, based on the brief introduction, this woman named Cynthia had just turned twenty. She was only two years older than most of the students in the class. How could she qualify to teach a group of students often referred to as "chosen ones"?

Even though they understood that the school would only hire strong instructors, they couldn't help but doubt: how strong could someone be at that age? With their own pride, it was natural for them to resist.

That pride turned to outright irritation the moment Cynthia calmly said, "The ten of you can each send out a Pokémon to battle me at once."

Was she kidding?

Twenty years old? Did she think she was already an Elite Four?

Did she think she was Lance?

She was barely older than them by two years!

The ten students led by Yezo were all exceptionally gifted trainers, each with strong backgrounds. Every one of them had at least three or four Pokémon under their belt, and many of those were already at the Advanced level.

There was no way they believed that this woman could take on all ten of them simultaneously.

Still, their upbringing kept them from outright showing their anger.

The atmosphere was tense almost unbearably so.

It was Jin who finally broke the silence. He sounded pressed for time.

"Each of you, send out your ace Pokémon. Hurry up. Let's see what you're made of."

The ten students exchanged glances and nodded. Then they each sent out their strongest partners.

"Go, Charizard!"

"Come out, Feraligatr!"

"Serperior, get ready to battle!"

Large and diverse Pokémon filled the field, most of them final evolutions of the classic regional starters.

Nine of them were the fully evolved forms of the traditional starter Pokémon.

But one among them stood out distinctly.

It looked like a child cloaked in armor. Its hands ended in two sharp blades, and its head and torso were equipped with similar razor-like edges. This was Pawniard—Yezo's current ace.

Cynthia rested one hand on her hip, her golden hair catching the light as her other hand gracefully brushed through it. Then, from her waist, she took out a Luxury Ball.

"Fly through the sky… Garchomp!"

A Pokémon resembling a shark appeared on the field. Its body was primarily dark blue, with a red underside from its jaw to upper belly and yellow on its lower abdomen.

Garchomp had wings growing from its forearms resembling shark pectoral fins. Two horns on its head gave it a hammerhead shark-like appearance, and a yellow star-shaped patch adorned its nose. Sharp teeth filled its mouth, and three gill slits marked each side of its neck.

Its claws were white and single-toed, while its feet were three-toed. Each upper arm and thigh bore two white bone-like spikes.

After emerging, Garchomp let out a roar, folding its body inward and spreading its wings—it looked just like a jet fighter.

The ten trainers each had different reactions. Garchomp might be a pseudo-legendary, sure, and from the looks of it, it was at least at quasi-Elite Four level. But that didn't mean it could defeat all ten of their ace Pokémon.

Take Yezo's ace, Pawniard, for instance—it was already level 48, just two levels shy of the League's benchmark for quasi-Elite Pokémon at level 50.

The other nine Pokémon weren't far behind either, with most around the level 40 mark. In such a scenario, even a pseudo-legendary Garchomp couldn't win against all of them simultaneously.

Unless… it was at Elite Four level.

As the group gradually regained their composure, they began to analyze the situation. Cynthia had to be relying on something.

But Cynthia wasn't planning on giving them much time to think.

"Let's end this in one brilliant strike. Garchomp, use Draco Meteor!"

Garchomp crouched slightly, its entire body glowing with yellow light. A faint orb of energy began to gather in its belly and quickly moved to its mouth.

Boom!

The yellow orb burst from Garchomp's mouth and soared into the sky. The sheer power and energy released created two visible shockwaves.

The orb exploded in the sky, scattering into countless golden meteors that rained down toward the ten Pokémon.

The overwhelming pressure caused the ten trainers' faces to change dramatically.

"Flamethrower!"

"Hydro Cannon!"

"Leaf Storm!"

One after another, the trainers commanded their Pokémon to counter with moves of various types and colors.

But it was useless.

The golden meteors of Draco Meteor tore through every single attack like a hot knife through butter, then smashed into the Pokémon on the ground.

When the smoke cleared, all ten Pokémon were down, completely unable to battle. The ten trainers stared blankly, their eyes wide with disbelief.

Ten versus one… and they were all one-shotted?

Jin shook his head and tossed out a Luxury Ball.

"Gallade, use Heal Pulse and Life Dew!"

A gentle wave of energy washed over the fallen Pokémon. As Gallade released sparkling droplets of healing water, the downed Pokémon slowly regained consciousness.

Gallade walked coolly back to Jin's side. With a press of the Poké Ball button, it returned to its ball on its own.

Clap! Clap!

Jin clapped his hands loudly to get the students' attention.

"I'm very disappointed."

His first words made them all lower their heads in shame.

"I'm not disappointed in your strength. Among your peers, your power is certainly impressive otherwise, you wouldn't have made it to the advanced level. The students of the Pokémon Research Academy aren't pushovers."

"So do you know why I'm disappointed?"
