"Lucas—"
"I don't want to hear it," Lucas spoke in a quiet yet raging voice. "Ryan, you better hope that her friend won't use this matter against you. Taryn is a widely known name. The fact that you brought a woman to the police station and gave her the third-degree treatment despite her crime not being proven is a serious dereliction of duty. That too without her family knowing anything about it."
Once he finished speaking, he ended the call without letting Ryan have a chance to speak. In all honesty, if Ryan had not helped him countless times, he would have reported Ryan's actions to the media all by himself. Not that he needed to; as far as he knew, Taryn was right there, and with the kind of personality she had, Lucas didn't believe that the woman would stay quiet.
Drawing a breath, he took out a cigarette and lit it up. He had long stopped smoking, but some days, people just pulled the last nerve that he tried hard to protect.
