Scarlett's POV.
"Oh, sorry." I apologized as a pretty girl with long blonde hair eyed me weirdly. Just then, my eyes caught the glass door, realizing that it was a privacy glass and whoever was on the other side would've witnessed my show of paranoia about going into the office.
I groaned internally.
"Thank you, Camille." The CEO's deep voice thundered from inside the office, sending a zap of electricity right through me.
The pretty blonde turned to face him. "Of course, sir. Please let me know if you need any more assistance." She said in an obviously fake light voice and despite the tension I was under, I cracked a smile.
She walked away with a dreamy look in her eyes while I stared at the back of her head for a few seconds.
"Miss Fox," Mr. Knight's voice shocked me out of my awestruck state.
"If you stand there any longer I might need to come get you myself."
My mouth formed and 'O', my cheeks colouring red as I stepped inside, closing the door behind me.
"Good morning, sir." I managed to say without stuttering, stopping a few feet from his large glass desk.
"Good morning, Miss Fox. Please, take a seat." He gestured to one of the seats facing him and I settled into the seat on the left.
My eyes roamed around the office, taking in the large space. His office felt almost as large as a ballroom. It was a compendium of space and elegance. Gold lined the walls and ceiling, telling a tale of the depth of this man's wealth.
"Do you like it?" He asked and I turned to him, confused.
"Like what, sir?"
"The office. You seem quite interested in the decor." He stated, his gaze unreadable but piercing.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. My thighs were beginning to get sticky with sweat and my heart rate had kicked up a notch.
"Um, yes. I like it. It's simple but elegant. Definitely my taste." I replied and he stared at me for a moment, his lips lifting up a fraction before reaching for a file.
"So, as you know I called you here to help me further analyze the market research. You were given certain parameters to work with yesterday and I would love to commend your work. It was very conscise and easy to understand. That saying, I would like you to do something similar but with different parameters."
He reached for his laptop, typing something before continuing.
"I believe we need a more in depth understanding of our customers, not just in Europe but around the world. I might make a very important and expensive decision off your work, so I expect perfection. Can you do that?" His eyes assessed me, tickling my nerves in ways I couldn't explain.
"With my eyes closed." I replied and his lips lifted up in a smirk, his blue orbs dancing in a dare.
"I didn't take you for the cocky type, Miss Fox."
"Looks can be deceiving, wouldn't you say, Mr. Knight?" I didn't know why I was playing his little game. Heck, I didn't even know what game we were playing but I was intrigued.
Was the CEO of Knightingale flirting with me? I didn't want to be presumptuous but it sure seemed like it.
His eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion under the weight of the growing tension but he cleared his throat, sitting back in his chair.
"I've sent everything you need to that laptop. Take it and get started." He ordered, going back into boss mode.
I reached for the closed laptop before me, reading through the information before getting started on work.
I couldn't say we settled into a comfortable silence because his breath felt a little too heavy and my heart beat a little too loud.
It felt like there was a sizzle of an electric charge between us and I couldn't help but wonder if he felt it too.
Maybe I was just crazy.
My eyes strayed to him for a moment, but I quickly averted my gaze to the view behind before he could notice.
Behind him was a breathtaking view of the city. I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sheer beauty of it. The towering buildings, the bright blue sky covered with fluffy clouds. It almost felt like a painting.
Suddenly, Mr. Knight stood up, temporarily blocking my view.
I quickly turned back to my work, typing away on the laptop before I got scolded for slacking on duty.
The work he'd given me today was far broader than what Mr Gibbs had given me yesterday and I could already tell it would take quite a lot of time to complete.
I took a peek behind me just to see what Mr. Knight was up to. He was at the far end of the office, peering into a fridge.
I continued my work before he could catch me staring. His footsteps soon filled the silence.
He stopped mere inches from my chair and I gulped. 'Why is he so close to me?' I wondered, struggling to breathe at a regular rhythm.
Slowly, and possibly purposely, he bent to my height, his breath scarcely fanning against the curve of my neck.
I swallowed. Hard.
I was enveloped by his masculine scent. Only a few seconds and I already felt intoxicated. And the heat coming from him seemed to seep far beneath the surface of my skin.
My insides came alive with a fire I couldn't explain and it took all of me to not let out a strangled moan of protest.
I couldn't understand what this man was doing to me. It was far from normal but I couldn't deny it, my curiosity was piqued.
Gently, he placed on the table a… juice box?
Two others followed and I had to look down at his hands to see that he had packed a hoard of juice boxes on his little rendezvous.
I watched him rise and round the table from the corner of my eyes.
He settled into his chair with a huff, setting his own hoard of juice boxes on his side of the table.
"I saw you were spacing out so I thought you needed a power boost." He offered and I smiled gratefully, still struggling to shake off the effects of his earlier proximity.
"Thank you. I appreciate it." He nodded, shrugging off his suit jacket. He hung it at the back of his chair before rolling his sleeves up.
With strong veiny hands which I watched like a hawk, he picked up a grape flavored juice box, punching the straw into it before taking a small sip.
I lost it then, cackling like a jackal in heat. The sight of a strong, dominant man like Mr. Knight carefully sucking on a juice box sent me into a fit of hysterics.
"You are full of surprises, Mr. Knight." I managed to gasp through a fit of giggles and he watched me with an amused expression, his blue eyes lighting up every few seconds.
"What's wrong with a grown man stocking up his vitamins?" He asked in mock offense and I shook my head at him, still sporting a wide grin.
"Does the public know this is how Mr.CEO stocks up his vitamins?" I asked quizzically and his eyes darkened.
"Some things should stay behind closed doors. Don't you think, Miss Fox?"
My smile slowly faded as his question hung in the air like a dare. My throat felt tight and if I didn't do something to dispel the heavy atmosphere, I'd suffocate to death.
"I noticed a drop in sales in Australia." I quickly changed the topic but the intensity of his gaze never seized. Even as I went over my discoveries, his gaze only seemed to grow daunting.
"I do see the need for some advertisements on these parts too. What do you think?" I asked, my tone breathy and heavy with an emotion I couldn't bring myself to name.
He cleared his throat, a devious smirk in place.
"You want to know what I think?" He asked, his voice seeming even deeper than before.
I couldn't bring myself to speak. Rather, I nodded slowly, his eyes following the movement of my heaving chest for a brief moment before they held mine once again.
Being this close to him was nerve wracking but that stare, it did things to me I couldn't explain and I was sure he knew just how much of an effect he had on the opposite gender.
Was this some sort of twisted game for him? I couldn't tell but the room had grown heavy with unspoken words.
"Your analysis of the situation is impeccable." He started growing serious now.
"Thank you, sir." I breathed waiting for a but. Instead, he dropped a bomb.
"On that note, how would you like to be my new secretary?"
My eyes bulged out of their sockets.
"What?"
