"Hi, my name is Jin Aldeus and I'm about to tell you a story...For this story to make sense I have to take you way back to the start of it all. For as long as humankind can remember creatures called Reapers have coexisted with us. until they decided they should be this world's sole ruler, so they waged war upon human society. Luckily for us we had a trick up our sleeve. When the Reapers started to appear special kinds of humans started being born with rare and unique abilities. Those with strong ones became hunters that fought against the Reapers… For me things weren't so easy, I wasn't born with any powers, I'm just a regular average guy. For the most part my childhood wasn't that great, my parents divorced when I was 12 and when I was 19 my mother passed away not too long after I moved out. But despite all of that I've made a life for myself. I work in an office building filing paperwork for the Worldwide Hunter Association or WHA for short. The job sucks but the pay is good and when I'm not working, I'm at home with the only happiness I have left in life… my beautiful wife Eva. "Hey.... wake up... hey sleepyhead"
Jin slowly opened his eyes revealing his wife Eva looming over him, she smiled and kissed him on the cheek saying
"It's time to get up, we have to go to the doctors today"
"Oh right! The ultrasound"
Jin jumped out of his bed dressing himself in a suit for his shift at the office later, as he was brushing his teeth he looked at himself in the mirror and smirked. He let out a chuckle saying to himself. "Finally, I feel like our life together is getting started. I'm actually going to be a dad"
Jin finished up and they left for the doctor's office. On the way there Jin felt a sharp pain in his head, something he had never experienced before. Jin couldn't understand what it was, but he felt like something bad was going to happen. He pushed this dark feeling down because he didn't want anything to ruin this day for him and Eva. When they arrived at the Doctor's office once again that feeling hit Jin again but before he could think on it Eva pulled him by his hand into the ultrasound room. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Aldeus. Before we start, I want to ask... Would you like to know the gender"?
Eva looked at Jin and they both nodded at each other, she looked at the doctor and replied
"Yes please, we would like to know" Eva laid down on the exam chair and the doctor started the ultrasound, a little baby was seen on the monitor and Eva smiled and started to cry
"Congratulations, you're having a girl"! Jin hugged her and started to tear up, on their way out the doctor gave them photos of their baby. When they stepped outside a breeze hit them and Jin looked at her and asked
"So where do you want to go to eat? We can go anywhere you want" Eva smirked and grabbed Jin's hand and started walking, when they made it halfway down the street a loud siren sounded throughout the whole city and voices could be heard saying
"FOR ALL CITIZENS CURRENTLY IN THE DOWNTOWN VENLAND DISTRICT EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY, I REPEAT EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY, AN UNIDENTIFIED REAPER HAS BEEN SPOTTED" As the voice finished as if on cue, the ground shook uncontrollably. A wave of people came running toward Jin and Eva, suddenly a loud explosion rung out and the Reaper appeared from the smoke at the intersection of the road. Its body was tall and grotesque. Its stomach was nothing but a mouth with rows of jagged sharp teeth and it had dozens of tendrils coming from its back all moving with a mind of its own,
"WE NEED TO RUN NOW"! Jin grabbed Eva by the hand and started to run away. People could be heard screaming all around them and suddenly a car flew past Jin and Eva completely mutilating a group of people next to them. The car rolled and collided with another car exploding, sending Jin and Eva off their feet. Dazed but still conscious Jin called out
"EVA... EVA WHERE ARE YOU"! Jin stood up but his thigh had a giant gash in it but all he cared about was finding Eva. He stepped into the smoke and saw her through the smoke of the explosion; she was getting up when out of nowhere the Reaper grabbed her by the leg
"JIN HELP ME"!
"NOOOOO EVA" He tried to run after her but tripped due to his injury. The Reaper grabbed her upper body with another tendril, and it started to pull
"HELP ME"! Her voice was cut short as her body was ripped in half. Her blood covered a part of the street and hit Jin in the face. His eyes widened as tears immediately started flowing and before he had time to process, he looked down and saw the unborn fetus of his child hanging from Eva's body. The Reaper opened its mouth and ate their corpses in front him. Jin looked into the sky as rain started to fall. Suddenly he felt his own heartbeat, everything went silent as his blood curdling scream rung out. The Reaper looked at Jin and made an attempt to grab him with a tendril when suddenly it gets sliced apart. Jin's hair slowly shifted from a dark brown to a solid white; he instinctively pointed his palm at the Reaper and a blue glow appeared around his body
"Just.... Die"!
The Reaper reared its tendrils ready to strike Jin, but as it went to attack a hole was blown through the middle of its body where its mouth used to be. The creature fell over and as its body hit the ground a group of four hunters arrived wearing matching uniforms, each person had a number on their left arm, 1, 2 ,3 and 4, the person with the number 1 turned to Jin and with a deep scratchy voice he yelled.
"RUN NOW, WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE"!
The Reaper started to get up as its mouth reformed and it let out an ear-piercing shriek. The man with the number 1 ran to Jin as the others readied themselves to defend against this seemingly unstoppable creature.
"Sir you need to get away from here, it isn't safe here"
Jin looked at the man with tears still running down his face, Jin grabbed his shirt and pulled the man towards him and said in a cold tone.
"Tell them to stand down now, the only person killing this thing is going to be me"
the man tried to loosen Jin's grip on him, but he couldn't even make him budge. He looked Jin in the eyes and saw the tears running down his face.
"Listen I don't know what happened, but what I do know..."
"YOU DONT KNOW SHIT"!
Jin let him go and started to approach the hunters, but when he took a step, he instantly appeared in front of them,
"What the hell! Who is this guy"?
Jin's body glowed blue as lightning began to form and crackled around him, the Reaper shot its tendril at him and as he looked at it everything was in slow motion. He side stepped and the tendril pierced the ground next to him. He smirked and grabbed its tendril wrapping it around his arm ripping it clean from its body. Suddenly Jin felt all of the muscles in his body tighten and he shot himself at it kicking it into the air like it was a soccer ball. He looked up and his body vanished, parts of the Reapers body started disappearing until just the top half of it was suspended in the air
"TRY TO GET UP FROM THIS, BASTAARRRDD"!
Jin's eyes glowed a deep blue, he cocked his fist back and punched it with all his might. A light flashed, and a bolt of lightning crackled. Its body hit the ground in a flash exploding into a misty cloud of blood, when the cloud dissipated Jin was seen standing alone in the crater. The hunter watched as he fell onto his back unconscious. Jin opened his eyes and sat up intensely. Something was off, it almost seemed as if he was in a dream. Everything around him was fuzzy but suddenly he heard a voice speak to him
"Don't worry you're safe here, nothing can happen to you here"
Jin turned to his right and saw a black figure with glowing blue eyes staring back at him. It slightly startled him, but he knew deep down he wasn't in danger. He let out a sigh and spoke.
"Who… are you and what is this place"?
"Me well… I am the manifestation of your abilities, as for this place, it's your own mind"
Jin stood up on his feet and started too slowly pace back and forth.
"How didn't I know I had abilities? I was told my mana concentration wasn't high enough to manifest one"!
The black figure walked toward Jin and created a ball of magic and said
"While that may be true, there is a very rare phenomenon that happens with people where sometimes intense emotion or trauma can draw out latent abilities. Though I don't think it's ever been documented before"
As the figure looked at Jin tears began to stream down his cheeks, suddenly the sky darkened, and lightning flashed. Jin looked up at the figure with a look of pure rage painted across his face
"You said you're the manifestation of my power… that means I finally have the power to do something about this fucked up world, I just thought of a name for you"
"What is that sir"?
"I'm going to call you … Cain"
A bolt of lightning struck next to Jin, and he suddenly woke up from this dreamlike state. He sat up quickly only to see he was in a hospital bed and was greeted by a woman sitting next to his bed
"Woah take it easy there, your body isn't ready to be moving around right now"
Jin stayed silent not saying a word when a knock was heard from the door. The woman promptly got up and opened the door
"So, you must be Jin Aldeus, it's nice to meet you, my name is Eric Saldon and I'm the president of the WHA"
Eric pulled out a piece of paper handing it Jin saying
"This is a record we have of you. It seems you've had a Mana assessment before, but it showed the concentration of Mana within you was too weak to have manifested a power"
Jin and Eric lock eyes giving each other a smug look,
"So that's leaves the question… How were you able to beat a high ranked Reaper with a Mana level lower than that of some grade school children"?
Jin smirked and started to chuckle and then replied
"Just dumb luck I guess, are we done here I'd like to be left alone"
"You're not off the hook that easy, I'm here to offer you something, you can choose to accept or refuse but… I think you'd be really interested in what I have to offer"
Jin looked at the paper in his hand an unfolded it
"An enlistment form? If this is some way of trying to get me to help you, I'm not interested, I'm only interested in one thing now"
"Hmm and what's that Mr. Aldeus"?
Jin threw his legs over the side of his bed and stood up. He walked over to his window as his legs were shaking uncontrollably. He looked out at the city and said with a serious tone
"I'm not going to rest… until I've eviscerated every last one of them. I'm going to cleanse this world of those fucking things and I'm going to do it alone"
Eric sighed before standing up and approaching the door, before he left, he said something to Jin
"My offer is always on the table, oh and by the way Mr.Aldeus, in this world all we have is each other, I don't know what you've been through but there are people who still want to help and do good… just remember that"!
Eric and the woman who was previously in the room left leaving Jin to his own thoughts
"Well, Mr.Aldeus what's our first move"?
Jin smirked and replied to Cain
"First I have to get stronger so…. let's go kill some of those fucking things"!
