The sunray hit the ground softly, like shining glitters, as excitement buzzed like fireworks in the air. Today was the long-awaited annual Sports Day, and parents arrived with their kids—chatting, running around, holding seat tickets, and searching for their assigned seats.
Inside the changing room near the school ground, Katherine knelt to tie the final strap on Jasmine's sports shoe while her daughter bounced excitedly in place, dancing with her light stick. Her cheerful face was already dabbed on her chubby cheeks.
"Careful, baby," Katherine warned gently, brushing back a curl that was sticking to Jasmine's face.
"Mummy, it's finally happening!" Jasmine beamed, tugging at her yellow-and-black striped headband, grinning widely.
"Yes, baby," Katherine caressed her face adoringly. "You make mama proud," Katherine said, poking her gently on the forehead.
"Yes, mommy," Jasmine boasted, her chest puffed, head raised, and nose high.
