Chapter 27 - A choice of survival

"A-argoreas? Who the hell is that?" Satoya whispered to Edward. He wasn't sure if Edward informed him that the man across him who quite literally tore off a poor Regulator's head off like beast clawing through its prey is stronger than some random Elite rank called Argoreas, or the man himself is called Argoreas, it's just that Edward is in too much fear to correct himself.

"You imbecile! You dare disrespect Argoreas!? Argoreas, Executioner standing before you lots!" A jury scolded, pointed a rifle at Satoya, however, the man with the tattooed arm held his arm out. His face was written in utter rage. "Enough of the fucking introduction, I don't have time for this.."

He pointed at Satoya, veins being visible in his forehead. Satoya was very unsure whether or not he is the only one seeing the menacing red aura radiating from the man whose name is Argoreas. But Argoreas spoke again, "you're that brat who invaded MY mansion! And wasted the Wrehtched blood vials that I spent 3 years stealing from The Consortium!"

Mansion? Oh shoot, I remember one of the Jurisdiction Court guys guarding the gate mumbling Argoreas, but why would a guy who is apparently stronger than an average elite rank live in a mansion as pathetic as that?

Satoya didn't have any time to register anything after that thought, and saw Argoreas basically catapult himself in the air above Satoya. This sight was exactly the same as the first contract Satoya had "completed" where he had to fight some Alsaia Syndicate dude, but this time is completely different, as this man in this exact second, is VERY likely going to splatter him into the ground like abstract art. Satoya already knew he would be killed then and there, and closed his eyes in acceptance.

Outside the airport, Ludwig and Sendo were desperately sprinting to the airport, "hey Ludwig, why dontcha open a gate to make sure that Satoya pal don't get annihilated." Sendo unsheathed his odachi, pressing a button on his handle, igniting the blade in plasma, as well as forming a shield of even more static light purple flames. Ludwig nodded, his expression was of slight concern. He waved his hand, leaving a trail of a mist of stars, ripping open a gate, following up with Sendo running in.

Back inside the airport, a gate opened right before Argoreas landed the fist that pulsated pure wrath, with Sendo dashing through, blocking the full force of the attack. The plasma barrier that Sendo spent all his "fuel" on was shattered in an instant, causing his arm and ribcage to be pulverized from the pure physical strength of the assault. Satoya opened his eyes, witnessing fading shards of what seemed to be strange violet flames. He felt someone grabbing his collar from the right, throwing him to the side, and there he saw Ludwig, who wore a face he could barely interpret as a mix of annoyance and uncertainty. Satoya also saw Ludwig kicking Isaac down, knocking him forward. Satoya himself didn't understand how he could watch the whole thing unfold in slow motion, but he felt the same way when he was unintentionally subdued by the same Jurisdiction Court men guarding the gate.

Ludwig ducked after kicking Isaac to the ground. As if the slow motion of time stopped, Sendo rocketed past them, and smashed into the security room, the broken glass pieces flying in the air, covering the now unconscious Sendo in glass cuts.

Argoreas spat, insulting out of spite, "what? You have god watching you?! You'll need someone like The Blessing Celestial to save you from death!" He started becoming even more infuriated, Ludwig made a dismissive grunt, charging toward Argoreas, sword in one hand, a starry cloud in his other.

The two fought, Satoya wasn't able to fully perceive the fight, aside from the momentary retreat of Ludwig, only to not be given any time to breath or seemingly plan his next move. Argoreas moved as an unstoppable force, and oddly enough, it reminded Satoya of a biography written by someone in the 6th disaster. Which was barely readable, but had these words written:

The C▇▇acl▇▇m of this ▇isa▇ter had such unimaginable power, I doubt even ▇rl▇▇, The Constellation Equity, could be able to defeat him. Oh may The Sovereign mother of all life bless us with survival.

To be honest, Satoya doesn't really know how he remembered that, as his entire time inside a museum in Okamura's Tagawa City, was him literally just on his phone, sometimes reading the museum attraction because Edward wouldn't shut up.

A harsh clanging noise woke Satoya from being zoned out. He paid little attention to what was going on, yet witnessed Ludwig slid past him, bruises and blood all over him. His sword was somehow in great condition, but the wielder wasn't. Satoya was no medical expert, but judging off of how Ludwig was bleeding out of his mouth and had, he started realizing the sheer gravity of the situation.

"Fine, I'll admit. You are stronger than I thought, based on your uniform, you are an S rank. I should've at least expected that from a defector from the Azure Family." Argoreas commended in a salty tone. There were no injuries on the man, a mere cut was on his arm, but Satoya couldn't think of anything. What would this Lord sarcasm achieve? He even lacks the basic "magic" that truth seekers have!

"You." Ludwig's voice tore through the ever growing fog of pessimism inside Satoya's head. Satoya in response slowly turned his head to Ludwig.

"This is an unforeseen catastrophe, due to my current condition, I am highly incapable of opening a starlit gate to a desired location…" Ludwig said in a dire voice, every word he spoke, blood coughed out of his mouth, but he continued with his remark, "I can either open a starlit gate, and based on my own estimation, I can fend him off for only a minute.. And let you all leave through, or you all retreat, retreat to the airport and grab the attention of the nearest Elite rank, although he is only the Elite rank 20, the weakest of the elite ranks, that should be enough to cause the least amount of casualty… So I must ask you."

Those words were solemn, if one of the options would result in the least casualty, then surely he should choose to run them, right? But the other option was to have Ludwig open a gate, a gate that he no longer had any control over because of his injuries, but let them, the gang, be safe, depending on the gamble.

Satoya glanced, back and forth, at Argoreas who was standing there, and back at the gang, who were becoming even more pale. Any paler and they'd probably be mistaken dead. Satoya took a deep breath, speaking in a tone of such seriousness that it surprised even Ludwig.

"Open the gate."

Ludwig nodded, a small, weak smile stretched on his face. Satoya couldn't register seeing him smile, and before realizing, a large gate outlined in countless nebulas enveloped the gang as a whole, forcing them to fall into a dimension, maybe the dimension only accessible to Ludwig and anyone who went through his gate? Satoya was unable to understand. Then a white gate tore open, the destination was impossible to comprehend, a mystery to anyone who dared to pursue.
