Chapter 12 - Gods and Prophets Part 1.1

1.

Black Air Raiders do not sing, it was not a law or rule by any standards but rather a fact acknowledged by Black Air Raider families throughout time. Heather/Night lived her whole life without hearing a Black Air Raider sing let alone well.

No.

Black Air Raiders recited. They didn't need to sing. Their God, Modimo Hleko, had endowed them with enough gifts to live without. Powerful muscles, light but tough bodies and, of course, the ability jump high and take to the sky.

Heather/Night and her team were surrounded by humans. Each short but not little. They had broad chests and squarish features, all topped with a layer flabby skin. Though clothed, Heather/Night could see that there wasn't an inch of definition between them. They were big, slow but easily underestimated. Every major monarchy of the four nations were run by humans.

Even as Heather/Night and the rest of the Merry Makers danced, they felt oppressed by their vast numbers.

They were in their tens of thousands. The dancing came to a stop and Heather/Night bowed. The rising applause weighed down on them by the sheer numbers of people clapping. She was sweating, her breath short. She signalled, and Lindi/Evening stepped to the front, layered in sweat. It ran down her temples gushing rivers before damming on her chin, dripping constantly.

The crowds hushed dropping to an unending murmur. Lindi/Evening shouted over it, tensing her whole body.

"Humans of Lumber House! I call your attention! We have tasted your hospitality, enjoyed your cuisine, even awed upon your history, even your water is incredible!"

This was met by massive rolling cheers, there were thousands clapping now. Heather/Night watched as Lindi/Evening revelled in the moment a little too much.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Heather/Night and rest of the group started stamping their feet to the drumbeat; shakers attached to their ankles, creating a hiss on the wooden stage the humans of Lumber House had built for the festival. Lindi/Evening started clapping, making the crowd joined the rhythm.

"This is the final act before light dawns on this stunning town. I give you, Kgosatsana Tshumo and the shattered carpet!" Lindi/Evening yelled spreading her wings and her arms wide, Heather/Night had little doubt that Lindi/Evening must have looked an awesome sight with the rest of the soldiers behind her, and at the heart of the wooden stage an immense bonfire illuminated the whole arena. Lindi/Evening must have looked like Kgosatsana Tshumo herself. A taboo in all Black Air Raider tribes, assuming Lindi/Evening cared at that moment.
