Chapter 1 – You Are Pregnant!!
OLIVIA
If someone had told me two months ago that this was how things would end between me and Ethan, I wouldn't have believed them.
Not because our relationship was perfect. It wasn't.
But because I really thought he loved me. I thought he meant everything he said.
I was wrong.
The sound of my heels hitting the floor echoed through the quiet hallway of Blackwood Enterprises. I was shaking, but I kept walking. I held a gold envelope in my hand, the paper already wrinkled from how tightly I'd been gripping it.
I'd read it at least ten times, but the words still hit the same every time:
Ethan Blackwood and Caroline Hart are getting married.
I stopped outside his private penthouse door. The receptionist stood up behind me. "Miss Reed, you can't go in right now—"
I didn't wait. I pushed the door open.
"Ethan!" I said. My voice came out louder than I expected.
He was standing by the window, holding a glass of whiskey like he didn't have a care in the world. When he turned around and saw me, he didn't even look surprised.
"Olivia," he said. His tone was calm. Flat. "This isn't a good time."
I walked straight to his table and dropped the invitation in front of him.
"What is this?" I asked.
He looked down at it and then looked back at me like it meant nothing. "It's an engagement announcement."
"For you and Caroline?" I asked. My chest was tight. My hands were cold. "Are you serious right now?"
He didn't answer. He just walked back to his chair and sat down slowly like this was just another day for him.
"How long?" I asked. "How long have you been planning this?"
He took a sip of his drink. "Olivia, don't make this into a bigger deal than it is."
I laughed, but there was no humor in it. "A bigger deal? I've been your secret for two years. I waited for you. I stayed quiet when people asked questions. I believed you when you said you weren't ready. And now I find out through a card that you're marrying someone else?"
"You knew what this was," he said, still calm.
"No, I didn't," I said. "You told me you loved me. You said we had a future."
He set his glass down and looked me in the eye. His face changed. Just a little.
"I said a lot of things," he said. "Don't confuse convenience with love."
My heart dropped. I stared at him, not sure if I heard him right.
"Convenience?" I repeated.
"You were…a distraction," he said. "Something that helped me get through a few things. That's all."
I couldn't move. I couldn't speak for a few seconds. My hands started shaking again, and I clenched them into fists to stop it. My nails dug into my skin.
"You used me," I said quietly. "You lied to me. And now you're throwing me away like I was nothing?"
"This wasn't what you promised me Ethan. This wasn't the togetherness you promised me?"
He looked at me like I was an annoying stranger that couldn't let him be.
He opened his mouth and was about to speak up when the door immediately opened cutting him off.
Doesn't that person know that someone is in the room with him? Or couldn't the person at least knock?
I turned around, already on edge—and there she was.
Tall. Blonde. Perfect.
She walked in like she owned the place. Like she belonged. Something about her felt… familiar, but I couldn't place it at first. My heart dropped as my mind tried to catch up.
And then it hit me.
The Sterling Gala. That stupid party filled with billionaires, influencers, and people who think the world spins just for them.
As usual Ethan didn't let me come with him, his signature word was that he didn't want people to know about us because he is planning big for me so it's better for me to stay than follow him. It was for my own good.
And I fucking believed him.
This was indeed the big he was planning for me.
I remembered seeing her on the TV when I was watching the Sterling Gala.
She and Ethan had been standing way too close. Her hand was on his chest. He was leaning in like they were some sort of lovers.
I asked him about it later. He laughed, kissed me, and told me not to overthink.
"She's just a business partner," he said. "Don't worry about her."
But she wasn't just a business partner.
She was Caroline.
Everything suddenly made sense.
Of course she was here. Of course she walked in like she owned him. Because maybe… she did.
She was stunning. Dressed in a sharp white suit that probably cost more than my entire life. Her red lips curled into a smug smile the moment her eyes met mine.
"Am I interrupting something?" she asked, her voice smooth and fake-sweet.
"No," Ethan said. But his voice had changed—softer now. Nicer. It made my stomach twist.
"Olivia was just leaving."
I turned back to him, my chest burning. "You're flaunting her in front of me now?" My voice was shaking. "After everything we've been through, you bring her here? To this office? Where we—"
"Enough."
His voice cracked like a whip.
"Stop embarrassing yourself, Olivia. You're pathetic."
I froze.
"Pathetic?" I whispered.
"Yes," he said, walking around the table. "You should've seen this coming."
I couldn't breathe. "But you promised me," I said quietly, "you said there was nothing between you two. You told me not to worry…"
"Were you really that dumb?" he cut in, voice full of disgust. "Did you seriously believe I'd pick you over Caroline?"
He gestured toward her like she was some prize.
"You were just something to pass the time. You've always been."
I stood there, frozen. My eyes burned, and I could feel the tears building up.
Caroline chuckled, folding her arms. "I almost feel bad for her," she said with a smirk. "Almost."
I looked at Ethan one last time, hoping for… something. A flicker of guilt. Regret.
But there was nothing.
I blinked, and a tear rolled down my cheek.
"This isn't fair, Ethan," I said. My voice cracked.
He rolled his eyes. "Still doesn't change the fact that you're useless."
That broke me.
It was like the floor opened up and I just dropped into nothing.
My legs gave out. Everything blurred. I felt my body tilt, the world spinning, voices becoming distant, and then—
Nothing.
⸻
I woke up to white light.
My head was pounding. Everything felt… fuzzy.
I blinked a few times. The ceiling above me looked too clean. Too bright.
Hospital.
I was in a hospital.
I turned my head, slow and shaky, hoping to see Ethan sitting beside me.
But the chair was empty.
Of course it was.
He probably dropped me off and left like it was an errand.
At least he didn't let me die. That was something, I guess. A bitter laugh escaped my throat, even though nothing felt funny.
The door opened and a woman in a white coat walked in. Her smile was soft and warm. It didn't match the coldness I had just come from.
"Miss Reed," she said kindly. "Glad to see you awake."
I slowly sat up. My body felt weak like I hadn't eaten in days.
"What happened?" I asked.
"You fainted," she said gently. "We did some tests. Nothing major, you just need rest. You're healthy."
She paused for a moment, her smile widening a little.
"So is your baby."
I blinked. "My what?"
"Your baby," she repeated. "You're pregnant. Congratulations."
