Rachel could hardly contain her excitement. It wasn't that she'd never seen millions before, but she'd never witnessed such a staggering return on investment in such a short time. They had spent just 4 million, and within the hour, the value of their jade stone had skyrocketed to 60 million.
That wasn't just numbers on a screen—it was real cash. Real profit.
"We should sell it now! Cash in and then post about it later!" Rachel exclaimed, nearly breathless with enthusiasm.
Rayden Wolfe, ever calm and collected, gave a slight shake of his head. "No rush."
He had made a wish just moments earlier: that the stone's price would multiply twentyfold. So far, it had only reached 60 million. Based on his estimation, it could still rise another 20 million before hitting its cap. There was still room to grow.
Just then, a commanding voice echoed from the crowd.
"I'll offer 80 million!"
Everyone turned in shock.
Walking toward them was an elderly man in a traditional Tang suit, leaning on an intricately carved walking cane. His silver hair and noble posture gave him a sense of dignity and wisdom that drew respectful stares from all around. Beside him was a young man in his twenties, keeping close and attending to his every move with great care.
As soon as people recognized him, they cleared a path and greeted him with admiration.
"Mr. Huang! You're here!"
"Old Huang, what a surprise to see you today!"
"Mr. Huang!"
He was clearly a man of status.
Rayden immediately recognized the old man as well. It was none other than Mr. Huang Jinbai, a highly respected local jeweler from Mohai. His family had been in the gold and silver business for generations, with a special reputation for jade. They had hundreds of jewelry stores all across the country, and their legacy spanned centuries.
Mr. Huang, standing before him, was the third-generation patriarch of the family. Though he kept a low profile, his generosity and prestige were well-known in Mohai City. Even Rayden's father held him in high regard.
"Mr. Huang, a pleasure to meet you," Rayden greeted respectfully.
Mr. Huang studied Rayden for a moment before a hint of recognition sparkled in his eyes. "You look familiar..."
"My father is Lin Nanshan. I'm his son, Rayden Wolfe," he explained.
The old man's face lit up with a hearty laugh. "Ah, that explains it! You look just like your father. How is he doing these days?"
"He's doing well, thank you. He's currently overseas managing business."
"Good, good. Health is the greatest treasure a man can have!" Mr. Huang chuckled again, then walked over to the freshly cut jade stone.
As he examined it closely, his hands trembled ever so slightly. "What a remarkable stone. I haven't seen quality like this in years. It has the potential to be carved into a magnificent Buddha statue."
He nodded approvingly and then turned to Rayden. "This piece is worth 80 million easily. But since you're the son of an old friend... I'll offer you 90 million for it."
Gasps of disbelief swept through the crowd once more.
"Another 10 million added just like that?"
"That's way over market value!"
"Didn't you hear? Mr. Huang is giving face to the next generation!"
"Ninety million from a single jade stone… That's unreal!"
Standing silently at the edge of the crowd, Adam's face had darkened again. He said nothing, but it was clear he was struggling.
Rayden tried to decline graciously. "Mr. Huang, 80 million is already generous enough."
"Nonsense! Take it as a gift from an old man to the son of a friend," Mr. Huang waved off. "Let's complete the transaction. I'll take the stone with me."
The young man accompanying Mr. Huang swiftly took out his phone and requested Rayden's bank account number. Moments later, the notification from the bank arrived.
Rachel stared at her phone in stunned silence.
"This… this isn't a dream, right?"
Rayden laughed and gently poked her forehead. "Of course not! We invested 4 million and earned 90 million in return—20 times the profit!"
Rachel nodded rapidly, her face flushed with excitement.
"Hey, Rachel," Rayden said, lowering his voice with a cheeky smile, "how about giving me a little more control over the funds? I'd like to try picking out another stone."
Ordinarily, Rachel would've shot that idea down in an instant. But they had just made a fortune. The success made her feel like she could afford to take another risk.
"Alright. But no more than 10 million!"
"You're the best!" Rayden grinned and rubbed his hands like a kid in a candy store as he turned back to the display of uncut stones.
Not far away, Adam stood like a statue, devastated. He had been the one to suggest this jade gambling event. He had brought Rayden and Rachel here. And now, watching them walk away with 90 million, his heart felt like it was being stabbed repeatedly.
Rayden turned to him with a warm smile. "Brother Adam, come here for a moment."
Snapping out of his spiral of regret, Adam forced a smile and walked over. "President Wolfe, what can I help you with?"
Rayden clapped him on the shoulder. "Honestly, I owe today's fortune to you. If it wasn't for your recommendation, I wouldn't have come here. I wouldn't have invested, and I certainly wouldn't have made 90 million!"
Adam felt like someone had just driven a stake through his chest.
He had helped someone else earn 90 million in less than an hour… and hadn't seen a single cent of it. He clenched his fists behind his back.
Make you talk too much!
Make you act like a fool!
Rayden continued without noticing Adam's inner collapse. "So how about this—I want to pick a new stone. Why don't you help me choose it?"
"I… Me?" Adam blinked, bewildered.
"Yes, you," Rayden said seriously. "You seem to have good instincts. Let's ride this wave of luck together."
Adam's lips twitched.
Good instincts?
That first stone was supposed to be his!
The fact that Rayden credited him now felt like adding salt to an open wound.
Still, Adam nodded stiffly. "Sure… I'll help you pick."
Rachel smiled and leaned close to Rayden. "Are you sure about this?"
"Trust me," Rayden whispered back. "Let's see if lightning can strike twice."
As they walked over to the rough stone display again, dozens of onlookers trailed behind them. The tale of the 90-million jade stone was already spreading like wildfire.
And in the crowd, many pairs of eyes watched Rayden Wolfe with greed and envy, their minds racing with schemes.
