Chapter 14 - The Mission Unveiled

"Aww, come on, it wasn't that bad!" whined Anna pouting at Sami and Lyra while they ignored her. "Stop ignoring me pleassssee! It was an honest mistake!"

Sami continued running around the training area, ignoring Anna. Lyra, on the other hand, actively glared at Anna while striking at the wooden dummy. Her nose occasionally ran as she tried to snuffle it back.

Sami and Lyra were stuck laying on the ground after the brutal training session. It just happened there was a heavy downpour that night. Both were too injured to move out of the hole Anna made during the spar.

They almost drowned in a puddle of rain due to not being healed. Thankfully, Anna and Onyx returned before something bad happened, though it didn't stop both of them from almost dying.

Unbeknownst to them both, Anna was busy trying to follow Onyx. Due to her negligence, Anna left her students injured while it was raining badly.

Luckily Onyx has strong healing magic, or they would've been very sick for a while. Lyra sadly still got some of the sniffles, but was still forcing herself to train. Granted, most of her motivation is because of how angry she is at Anna.

"Lyra, my precious student, please say something!" cried Anna, grabbing Lyra's legs as she cried tears.

Lyra began to growl as she stopped striking the post. Her fist began to glow as she raised it up.

"ENOUGH!" Lyra yelled as she brought her fist down, hitting Anna's head, making her hit the ground hard.

BANG!

Anna began rolling over the ground, holding her head in pain. "Owie, that hurt," Anna whimpered in pain.

Lyra blew the smoke off her fist before going back to ignoring her, going back to her train, this time working on her magic. While all of this was going on, Onyx has been quietly watching from the tents, snickering at watching Anna trying to interact with them.

Onyx was shocked that Anna quickly got over that she was a vampire. Onyx shuddered at how strong Anna's power was when she released her full magic.

"If anything happens to my students, I'll make sure you suffer for as long as I live," She said, causing Onyx to nod her quickly in agreement.

That was the first time Onyx has ever seen Anna seriously, and she hopes to never see it again. Thankfully, Onyx has a chance to have a new life to move past the mistakes she's made in the past.

BANG!

"Sami, why are you being so rough with me!" yelled Anna as she held her head, now sporting two huge bumps.

"MAYBE IF YOU STOP GRABBING MY ARSE I WOULDN'T HAVE TO BE ROUGH!" Sami replied.

Onyx sweat dropped at the scene, seeing how stupid Anna was being. Inside, she was smiling. This wholesome scene is what she and her husband fought for in the past.

A couple minutes later, Anna made her way to Onyx, plopping herself right in front of her. No words were needed as Onyx began to heal Anna.

"How much of the skill Sami's shown so far is his own, compared to how much he got from through the familiar bond with you?" Anna questioned, her tone low so as to not be overheard.

Onyx pondered the question as she worked on reducing the swelling on Anna's head. Even back in the woods, Sami seemed to adapt quickly to the situation, even learning of her spells without seeing it after the familiar ritual.

"Truthfully, the talent is all his," replied Onyx. "Even when we first met, he used his mind to easily take down the Minotaur."

"Interesting," Anna stated before dropping into silence.

Onyx didn't continue the conversation. Truthfully, she doesn't know what to tell Anna. Sami's ring is special and once people learn that it was the first king's ring, it'll cause a riot.

Not only is it a sign of Sami's potential, but it offers unlimited ways to grow, with the ring's ability to absorb special abilities from things including monsters and people.

Onyx hasn't told Sami about that ability, thinking it'll be too much for the kid. Between having a crash course in fighting, and learning the magical words, it's a wonder he hasn't burnt out yet.

That's not including mastering the strength he's getting passively from Noctus. Given time, Sami might be one of the strongest in person in the Kingdom.

Sami, not knowing they were talking about him, kept doing his morning routine. Running around the training area, then using his hands to dig in the ground before having to fill it in.

After that, he has to do 100 laps in the pond swimming, before doing push-ups and sit-ups, all while keeping his weights on, which have been upgraded recently.

"Alrighty, kids, gather round," Anna commanded. Her voice echoed across the clearing.

Sami climbed out of the pond, using a small amount of fire magic to dry himself. Lyra huffed but listened to her teacher. She dropped her sword, making a small dent next to the wooden dummy, grumbling to herself as she made her way to Anna.

Onyx soon was broken from her thoughts, as Lyra and Sami both sat on opposite sides of her. Onyx quickly took her usual spot on Sami's shoulder as they waited for Anna to speak.

"Can you get on with why you wanted us over here?" demanded Lyra with her glare on Anna. "We are burning time; we can be training, sitting around!" Sami nodded with her in agreement.

"Ugh, can you not be so mean to me!" whined Anna. "If you can't be nice then, I won't tell you guys the important news." Sticking out her tongue as she finished talking.

Both of her students just stared at her. Anna refused to budge, ignoring the annoyed look on their faces. Finally having enough, Sami began to stand, deciding to go back training.

"Wait, wait, I'll tell you!" Anna quickly stated.

Sami slowly sat back down as he looked at her once again. Lyra was shifting, being impatient.

Anna cleared her throat before explaining, "A few days ago, while you guys were still sick, we received a message from Mercer. We were assigned a small mission that he believes would help Sami with his skills and be beneficial to you, Lyra."

Onyx leaned back in shock that Sami would be taking on a quest soon. Sami, on the other hand, was full of excitement, practically bouncing in his seat. Before he could say anything, Anna's voice cut through the quietness.

"So, um, don't get mad, haha," Anna whimpered.

"For once, teacher, can you just be serious?" replied Lyra.

"No respect for me anymore," Anna sniffed.

"Can you please tell us about the mission, Saint Anna?" asked Onyx, her eyes teary as she looked at Anna.

"Oh, my precious bunny, I'll tell you!" burst Anna. Anna's eyes turned into hearts as she started at Onyx. "Our Mission is to Protect the Last Uchian as she spreads her son's ashes."

Lyra's head snapped up at Anna as you could feel the anger radiating off her. Even Anna, who was trying to grab Onyx, though Sami kept her at bay, stopped playing around, getting serious as she stared at Lyra, trying to figure out why she's so upset.
