Chapter 88 - Chapter 4: Temple Rising

"Two stars, one light. One burns to protect. The other… to erase."

---

POV 1 — Kaien

Location: Sky Temple, Sovereign League Sector 9

The Sky Temple hovered above the clouds—an impossible structure of flowing spiritglass, floating runes, and luminous pathways carved by immortal hands. Kaien stared up at the vast main gate, his footsteps echoing beneath golden constellations etched into the stone.

Flame birds circled above the towers. Disciples in nanoweave robes sparred silently in the air, their movements guided by both spiritual qi and holographic combat programs.

> "This is where Sovereign bloodlines awaken," said Master Sun Mei, standing beside him. "But yours is not just blood—it's legacy. Fire that remembers."

Kaien didn't speak.

The fire inside him hadn't stopped burning since the attack. He felt it in his bones. In his dreams. In every heartbeat. Sometimes, it whispered in Wang Chung's voice.

She led him into the Hall of Origins—a great chamber filled with suspended flame orbs. Each orb held a battle. A memory. A life.

In the center: a single, glowing spiral of red-gold flame.

> Wang Chung's Core Imprint.

> "You'll begin here," Sun Mei said. "Not to learn who he was—but to learn what he left in you."

Kaien stepped forward—and the flames surged, swirling around his arm, branding him again with the Phoenix Spiral Mark. A new layer.

And then—

His mind was pulled into the flame.

Vision Realm — Memory Echo

He stood in the middle of a shattered world.

Ash and starlight fell like snow. A man stood ahead, facing thousands—alone. Wang Chung.

Burning. Dying. Laughing.

> "Come, then! Take the stars if you dare!"

And when the flames surged—Kaien felt it not as a watcher, but as if his soul had cast that fire.

The vision ended. He dropped to his knees, gasping.

> "He fought… to the last breath."

Sun Mei nodded. "And now that breath is yours."

POV 2 — The Temple

Location: Lunar Base: Black Eclipse Citadel

Xue Yiran—Void Empress, leader of the Temple—stood before a silver mirror so vast it reflected galaxies in its surface.

Kneeling before her was a boy—sixteen, pale, with pitch-black eyes and a soul that gave off no light.

> The Mirror Child.

He wore the same pendant as Kaien.

But his was cracked.

> "The sovereign flame was never meant to belong to one," Yiran said. "You are its mirror. Its balance."

> "I will kill him," the Mirror Child whispered.

Yiran smiled faintly.

> "No. You will show him what power becomes when it forgets compassion."

She placed her hand on his chest, and shadows writhed into his skin, awakening something ancient.

> "You are not Kaien. You are Kai'en—the Broken Flame."

---

Scene Shift: Final Beat

On Earth, Kaien woke from his meditation, gasping, his body drenched in sweat.

He touched the pendant.

> "What is coming…?"

In the Temple, Kai'en opened his eyes.

> "I'm coming."
