Adam stood beside Professor X in front of the massive school building. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before, even bigger than his own home. He couldn't hold back the excitement he felt knowing that this is where his journey would begin.
"Well, then, shall we head inside?"
Professor X asked, turning his head towards Adam with a gentle grin on his face before moving forward into the school.
Adam followed closely behind as Xavier gave him a tour of the inside of the school where he'd be staying, the lunchroom where he would eat, the library, and everything he needed to know before carrying on to outside the school.
Outside, Adam saw the only student in the academy other than himself, and instantly his eyes locked onto the girl all alone, underneath a tree that matched her loneliness.
"Wait, why have I only seen one student this entire time?"
Adam asked, confused by the emptiness of the school.
"Oh, well, you see, I might've forgotten to mention you're only the second student to have been recruited."
'Seriously, that's so annoying. He completely deceived my mother. I wonder how she's doing without me.'
He thought, a bit put off by the lonely atmosphere of the school.
"So that girl's the other student, then? Who is she?"
Adam asked with a curious expression.
"That's the first student. As you might've picked up, her name is Jean Grey, a powerful telepathic mutant. I hope you two can get along."
Xavier replied, but when he looked up Adam had already vanished.
'I had a feeling that she was Jean Grey. She looks like she's my age. She's kind of cute, though... Wait, is it weird that I find her cute? Am I a PDF file since mentally I'm twenty-two, but physically I'm still just a kid? No, no, it must be because I'm a kid and only my consciousness is developed, not my brain. I never had these kinds of thoughts before, I promise!'
Adam thought awkwardly moving towards Jean Grey.
[What are you talking about, dude? You're a total loli-con. I mean, have you seen your room...?]
A familiar voice echoed in Adam's head.
'Leo...? What the heck are you talking about, man, and what are you doing in my head?! ...Also, I have no such thing in my room.'
Adam said, freaked out hearing the voice of Leo and panicking at his words.
[Sure you don't.]
'I don't! You know I don't!'
Adam replied, annoyed at the continuing allegations.
[You know the truth, but they never will...]
'What? Who are they—now what are you talking about?"
Adam inquired, but there was no response, as if the voice had just vanished.
'What the heck just happened?'
He thought, raising his head and meeting the glare of Jean Grey.
She gave Adam a creeped-out look, like she just witnessed him do something weird. Though Adam continued towards her like nothing had happened, oblivious of the strange movements and gestures he made during his short conversation with Leo.
"Your name's Jean Grey, isn't it? Well, I'm Adam; it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Adam said, gesturing his hand out towards Jean.
"What do you want?"
Jean Grey responded blandly, staring at Adams's hand and showing no intent on shaking it.
"That's just rude. No wonder you're a loner... but never fear because I am here."
Adam joked, assuming a superhero pose, raising his fist into the sky.
'That was so cringy; no wonder I was single in my previous life.'
Adam thought, lowering his head in a shameful way, struggling to think of something else to say.
When he finally thought of something quirky to say, Jean was already gone; she vanished without a sound. "What? Where'd she go?"
"Welp, that definitely didn't go well, did it?" Xavier said, approaching Adam.
"Yeah, well, things are only getting more interesting, right? I like to keep things interesting, you know. And now I have a goal; I'm going to befriend her."
Adam responded in a joking manner.
The two continued on their tour around the school until it was time for lunch. Adam was eager to attempt befriending Jean once more. But unfortunately the lunchroom was empty; even Jean wasn't anywhere to be found.
'Strange...'
Adam got his lunch and sat down at a random table.
'I wonder where Jean is...'
He thought before scarfing down his food in a single breath; he was in a hurry to get out of this soundless cafeteria.
(Later That Day)
Later on, when the sun was going down, Adam decided to take a peek in the library, where he thought he might find Jean. And nevertheless there she was, silently reading by herself. She seemed enthralled by the book's contents, her face buried in its pages.
She didn't even notice Adam approaching.
"Strange seeing you here."
Adam spoke, but Jean ignored him like she couldn't even hear him talking.
"Ehm! Is the book that good? What are you reading anyways?"
Adam asked, snatching the book from Jean's hands, breaking her deep focus on the story.
"Hey, I was reading that! ... Ahh! It's you again. What do you want with me? Why can't you leave me alone? Hold on, don't tell me you like me or something."
Jean shouted in a fury of anger, trying her hardest to snatch the book back from a now blushing Adam.
"No, it's nothing like that. I just want to be friends; that's all."
Adam exclaimed like he was trying to defend himself from something more than just Jean's claims.
He avoided Jean with grace, side-stepping every attempt she made to reclaim her book. Then Jean activated her telekinesis, grabbing hold of the book and pulling it towards her; though Adam's grip was strong, he couldn't overpower Jean's psychic power.
But he refused to let go for some strange reason.
[Maybe his male ego is damaged because he's being overpowered by a girl. What a loser...]
Adam flew towards Jean as she increased the strength of her telekinesis. "Let go already," she demanded, but Adam nodded in refusal and crashed right into her.
He landed on top of Jean, their bodies pressing against each other, their eyes locked. For a moment Adam felt entranced by Jean's appearance, the softness of her skin, the warmth of her body, her sparkling green eyes, and her sweet scent.
Both of their faces became flushed red as their lips almost met, but before they could, Adam was forcibly pushed away by Jean's telekinesis. And he nearly crashed into a bookshelf on the other side of the room, barely cushioning himself with sand.
[Wow, you really are a PDF file, you weirdo...]
'No, it's not like that, I swear! My body just reacted on its own.'
Adam responded in his defense.
[Yeah, right. I bet you planned this whole thing out. I mean, all you had to do was let go of the book, but you didn't. Gee, what a degenerate.]
'If all you're going to do is insult me... then please get out of my head!
Adam exclaimed, angered by the constant mockery and ill-portrayed image Leo created for him.
During this distraction, Jean managed to slip away when Adam wasn't paying attention. She rushed to her room, still flushed red, her thoughts fixated on every moment when they almost kissed. She felt like her heart was about to burst from her chest and panicked at this foreign feeling.
'Again, how does she keep vanishing? Ugh! Well, I guess I'll go to sleep now then.'
Adam thought, standing to his feet before making his way to his room.
When he arrived, he hopped into his bed without wasting a moment. For some reason his thoughts flashed on his closeness with Jean, a strange feeling he felt many times before, yet this time he tried so hard to deny it.
'No way. This can't be..."
He thought before drifting off into a deep sleep.
[The Next Day]
[Wakey, Wakey]
'Agh! Why are you suddenly in my head? You've never done this before.'
Adam demanded to know, sluggishly waking from his bed.
[Well, the story is finally picking up, and I got a little bored, so I'll be sticking around for a while here and there. After all, this is like TV for me.]
'Wow—you really suck, you know that? First you give me this bland ability, and now you're annoying me trying to make me seem like some kind of weirdo.'
[What... I have no Idea what you're talking about; I'm an innocent creature, I promise.]
'Yeah, yeah, whatever.'
[Oh, and by the way, you're late.]
'What, and you tell me this now!'
Adam panicked, preparing himself and getting ready for the day. When he was done, he raced out of his room and scurried to class.
'Wait a sec, there's like literally nobody here. What are you talking about?'
Adam said, pausing before he almost burst through his doors.
[Can't believe you fell for that, but your crush is sitting beneath her favorite tree, and it's almost about to rain. Better get there fast...]
"What crush? What are you even talking about? I don't see her like that; I just want to be her friend."
Adam said, and before he knew it, he had already unconsciously walked all the way from his room to outside, where Jean was seated.
"Do you usually talk to yourself out loud?" Jean questioned, revealing she heard everything Adam had said. "It's strange, though; you're the only person I've met whose mind I can't read after I awakened my powers, well, other than Professor X, that is... Why is that? Is it because you're an open book who talks their thoughts out loud, or are you just a blockhead without thoughts?"
"Gee, you're a really rude person, you know. But to be straight up, the reason you can't read my mind is because I'm secretly some omnipotent god... whahaha!"
Adam said, his voice a bit awkward, but his tone was filled with confidence.
"Or you're just a weirdo... nah, you're definitely a weirdo."
Jean joked, and with a barely noticeable smile, she gave off a little chuckle.
[Yeah, she's right; you are a weirdo.]
"Wait a sec, did I catch you smiling and laughing just now? See, I knew I shone like the sun in your world."
Adam said with a gleaming smile.
Jean leaned back, blushing, "You're such a weirdo!"
She said, releasing a burst of telekinetic energy.
Adam was sent flying by the sudden outburst, but this time he was more prepared and caught himself by creating a floating platform of earth.
"I already got hit by that once I'm prepared now."
He said with a smirk.
Adam then floated back over to Jean, "Yeah we're definitely best friends now."
Jean blushed, turning her head in embarassment.
"Whatever... weirdo"
[Get a room you two...]
