Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Wake up without fear

The antivirus program written by Leon himself devoured the blue data stream belonging to the Great Demon of Tzeentch mercilessly, and the Great Demon of Tzeentch wailed and turned into a pile of broken and meaningless garbage code.

This strange scene even penetrated the program itself, projecting the illusion of the devil's painful struggle on the body of the fearless machine. Ademir and his companions looked at the scene in front of them in doubt, and Vega even raised his chainsaw sword

"It's normal for technology to exorcise demons, don't be too surprised."

After leaving behind a program to automatically clean up the junk code, Leon, who had taken back his consciousness code from the Dreadnought, explained calmly, "This Dreadnought is possessed by an electronic demon, so it cannot be caught."

"Demon? Where in the world is there such a thing?"

Lieutenant Vega snorted coldly. As a traditionalist, he didn't believe in these twists and turns: "The electronic virus injected by the enemy can be made so weird by you, a bunch of superstitious people. You master the technology but lack the spirit of scientific rationality. This is why I don't trust you, the Mechanicum."

"Demons are real. If you still maintain an objective and rational attitude, then you who have been trapped on this planet for more than a thousand years should not be so arbitrary about the current situation in the outside world." Leon turned around and decided to update the current version for these old antiques: "After the Great Crusade..."

"Devil!" Just as Leon was about to explain the truth, a thunderous roar suddenly came from behind him: "Let me tear apart all your deceptions and lies!"

Leon felt his scalp tingling, and he subconsciously lowered his head, just in time to avoid the dreadnought power fist that swept in like lightning.

The fist passed over his head and punched a dent more than a meter deep in the cave wall. Leon turned around in doubt and saw that the sleeping machine had stood up from the ground.

Shouldn't the energy be just enough for basic life support? How did he do it? And even launch an attack?!

Seeing that the first attack failed, it prepared to pursue, but perhaps the phase of his morning grumpiness had passed, and he was a little hesitant when he saw that there was only a tech-priest in front of him, not knowing whether to continue the attack.

Ademir, who was originally showing joy at the awakening, was also startled. He quickly stepped forward and blocked.

"Captain! It's me, Ademir!" He shouted so that the sleepy person inside could recognize his identity: "There are no enemies here! It was this tech-priest in front of you who just woke you up!"

"Ah, Brother Ademir, what happened to me? Am I...buried in the Dreadnought?"1

Ademir nodded in confirmation, and after receiving a positive answer, it was no longer as brave as before. His divine power that came from nowhere began to disappear, and his voice began to become weak: "Perhaps I have not fulfilled my duty..."

"It's over, Captain. You successfully killed that terrifying alien on the spaceship, a feat that no brother could accomplish." Ademir comforted him, "We had no intention of disturbing your sleep, but the brothers still need your experience and wisdom to escape from the desperate situation, so we had no choice but to wake you up."

"It's not over, Ademir, it's not over yet."

The advanced design on the oldest Contemptor Dreadnought allows the veteran in the sarcophagus to shake his head humanely: "I will not condemn you for burying me in the Dreadnought, and waking me up. I hope you can do so."

"It's just that I'm not sure if I'm still qualified to lead you... When I led my company into a spacehulk and was on the verge of being wiped out, I don't think I'm qualified to lead you."

Sergeant Arlo, who usually doesn't talk much, spoke up at this time: "Captain, at that time, each of us voluntarily followed you. Everyone knew clearly what the final result of following you would be, but they still made a choice."

"I transferred from the position of instructor of the recruit company to join your company. I felt that it was better to face the glorious death as a legion soldier than to train a group of equally confused recruits in a legion that had lost its future."

"The same is true for the brothers who died on the space hulk. They embraced the glory and value of sacrifice early. I don't think anyone will deprive you of your identity as a company commander just because you helped them realize their value, not even you."

"No, it's just a conspiracy, Brother Arlo."

The captain fell into painful memories: "They did embrace glory, but their death was worthless, and the one who deprived them of their value was I, who ordered you to step into this trap!"

After these words came out, the people present looked at each other in bewilderment, obviously not knowing what the trap he was talking about.

They still think that the battle with the space hulk that nearly wiped him out was just a battle with a group of strange-looking blue aliens who were good at psychic powers, and they finally won a tragic victory with huge casualties. But Leon, who had just seen and killed the Great Demon of Tzeentch, was not surprised by the fearless performance.

Driven by a strong desire for knowledge, Leon, who was almost beaten to death by him who had just woken up, took the initiative to step forward and expand the topic: "Now is the time to be honest with each other. Do you mind telling everyone your secret?"

"Ah, Tech-Priest. I am grateful that you have awakened me, and I must apologize for my recklessness just now."

He said: "But I have no intention of dragging you into a darker secret. Let me face it alone. This is my atonement."

Seeing this person being so nagging, Leon felt a little unhappy.

He was not familiar with these warriors, but the fact that they had fought against monsters on a primitive planet with a bunch of tattered equipment and had survived for a thousand years had already earned his respect.

Seeing that the man in front of him wasted their persistence and no one dared to make any comments to the noble man, Leon told him the truth without hesitation: "Dear Brother, you may not know the time now. No matter what you learned in the battle with that demon, it is already a thousand years later! Some of the secrets you are determined to bear have long become worthless over time!"

"A thousand years later?!" Although he was shocked, he still insisted: "This will at least give them a new beginning!

" You wishfully want them to let go of the past and have a new beginning?"

Leon confirmed: "Doing this will only make them wait for death on this planet in confusion!"

He looked at Leon, then at Ademir. He nodded gratefully at Leon, then said to the captain: "He is Leon, our present ally."

"As he said, the past is everything to us. No matter how dark the secrets of the past are, we hope to share them as fighting brothers. This is the only meaning for us to stick to this place and plan to escape from this planet."

Hearing Ademir 's words, He sobbed. He was silent for a while, as if he were negotiating a compromise with himself.

In the end, he chose to speak.

"Its a long story."

"It's about deception and betrayal..."
