Chapter 66 - Chapter 18: Renting a Room at an Inn

There were not many guards at the city gate. Only two people were sitting in a small shed built there.

Horne sent out his spiritual power to sense them, and surprisingly, both of them were Level 4!

One was a warrior, and the other was a priest!

Horne clicked his tongue. No wonder this was the City of Wealth, Maman City. Even the gate - guards were stronger than him!

Although Horne was a Fourth - Ring Mage, he couldn't cast any Fourth - Ring spells.

Because the best staff he could find so far could only cast Third - Ring spells, and it would be useless after one use.

However, Horne could now freely control lightning below the Second Ring. So, if a fight really broke out, it was still uncertain who would win!

But if just the gate - guards were so powerful, Horne couldn't even begin to imagine what kind of background this city had!

When entering the city, there was no inspection at all. Maman City had the confidence that no one could act recklessly here by force or other tricks.

Only with money could one do whatever they wanted in this city!

Once inside Maman City, it was like entering a new world. Compared to it, Lien City, which Horne had thought was okay before, now seemed like a border town.

The buildings were tall and exquisitely built, and the streets were clean and tidy. Just the number of people seen at the city gate might be more than the number of people on a whole street in Lien City!

Most of the passers - by looked in good health, and there was a special energy in them, a kind of confidence!

This kind of expression was rarely seen by Horne and his companions on their journey.

Another thing that made Horne and the others very comfortable was that there were no obvious banners against wild witches here.

On the surface, there were no characteristics of a church - dominated city.

It was Horne's first time in such a city, and he felt a bit out of place.

It was said before that the God of Wealth was also the God of Trade, and his parishes focused on economic development. So, on the surface, there was hostility towards wild witches and some other races, but it wasn't too extreme.

As long as you didn't make it well - known, even if people knew you were a wild witch, no one would come after you.

Even if a wild witch's forbidden identity was exposed, the deacons of the Church of the God of Wealth wouldn't be too dedicated when hunting them down, and many escapees could be found.

Compared with wild witches, who were less of a threat as heretics, the Church of the God of Wealth took the opposite extreme when it came to wizards.

Once a wizard showed up in Maman City, hardly anyone could escape!

After all, if a wizard caused trouble, it would be a severe blow to the economy.

For others, the rules were much looser. No matter what your identity was, coming to Maman City meant making money for the church!

Because of the lenient attitude of the Church of the God of Wealth towards wild witches, the number of wild witches living in Maman City was astonishing.

The God - Forsaken Land was generally impossible for ordinary people to reach, so most people chose to live in Maman City.

For a moment, Horne even thought about settling here directly. But then he thought that although he could live a peaceful life here, it was absolutely impossible to develop wild - witch forces here!

The Church of the God of Wealth always spared no effort in cracking down on those who disrupted the normal trade in this city. They had shown amazing strength in many crackdowns on forces that wanted to take advantage here.

Moreover, the Church of the God of Wealth would never allow a force to become too powerful here and threaten their status. So, after much thought, Horne still decided to go to the God - Forsaken Land.

The God - Forsaken Land was the most suitable place for wild witches to develop because there was no presence of gods!

For this reason, Horne and his companions didn't plan to stay in Maman City for too long. Although it was an important transit point, there were too many powerful people here. Once they were discovered, they would have no power to resist.

They only planned to stay here for one day. There were many inns in the city, but after visiting several magnificent large inns, Horne and his companions immediately felt like poor people.

After asking around, they learned that these inns were for wealthy merchants and noble lords.

The Inn Street was the most suitable place for ordinary travelers like them.

After asking for directions several times, they finally arrived at the legendary Inn Street suitable for poor people like them.

Compared with the prosperity of other parts of Maman City, the Inn Street seemed rather desolate. There were no more gorgeously - dressed people coming and going, and the buildings on both sides of the street looked very old.

At the entrance of the street, more than a dozen men were squatting there, seemingly trying to attract customers.

After years of experience, these men could easily distinguish customers who wanted to stay in an inn from the passing crowd.

As soon as Horne's carriage entered, these more than a dozen men surrounded them. They all talked at once about the advantages of their own inns, trying to get the business.

These men greeted Horne and his companions with smiles, but they didn't have a good attitude towards others. Horne thought that if they weren't there, these men might even fight.

This noisy scene made Horne frown. The looks in these men's eyes made him feel like he was a piece of goods.

Just when Horne was having a hard time making a choice, Ian Parker tapped Horne on the arm, gave him a wink, and then pointed in a direction.

Horne looked in the direction he pointed and saw a little boy standing outside the group of men. He couldn't talk to Horne and his companions outside the crowd and didn't dare to push hard for fear of angering the men outside.

This boy was about thirteen or fourteen years old, with short golden hair and some tiny freckles on his face. His expression was timid and anxious.

He really needed this business, but he didn't have the courage to compete with the adults.

Ian Parker must have had a reason to signal him about this little boy. Even if Horne didn't notice anything unusual about this child, he should choose this inn.

Moreover, choosing a child was more comfortable than choosing these men whose eyes were fixed on his money bag.

He pushed aside the men crowding around him and walked up to the boy and asked:

"Does your family also run an inn? If so, I'll stay at your place."

The boy couldn't believe that these customers really chose him. He was stunned for a moment and then happily nodded and said, "Yes, sir. My family runs an inn. It's clean, tidy, and the price is cheap. You'll definitely be satisfied."

Seeing that Horne had decided which inn to go to, these men dispersed helplessly. Only two of them kept muttering something as they left.

Horne's ears twitched slightly, but he just smiled and didn't react.

...

Watching Horne and his companions leave with the little boy, Ilya, who had been following them, led Alia by the hand and left the Inn Street.

He just came to confirm where Horne and his companions would stay.
