"Sir, Ms. Langford is here to see you," Godson Crane announced, his tone polite but with an edge that told me immediately this visit was no routine appeal.
I looked up from the briefing notes on my desk. The board meeting fallout still smoldered in my mind: missing documents, shaken investors, and the fragile trust I had with Aria and the board. Now Celeste was back—again.
I pressed my lips together. "Send her in," I said, though every fiber of me bristled at the idea. Godson gave me a subtle nod and stepped aside.
I rose from behind the desk and straightened my suit jacket. My heart hammered: I hadn't expected Celeste so soon.
