NOTE: Please, this novel is totally a work of fiction. So even if you see a unicorn flying or spitting rainbows, please understand that it's just something that came from my imagination.
*********
The guard felt a lump in his throat as he gulped down the nothing, his breath caught and his hands trembled in fear—Boax liked it, it was something he fed off of, the sweet must of fear.
"Please, let me go. I didn't do anything bad." He stuttered, his voice broke from the dryness he felt in his throat and the lack of oxygen in his lungs.
Boax smirked. "You have five minutes to open that gate for them and when I say go. You go. Do you understand?" He said gravely, his eyes a bright shade of red boring into the depths of his soul.
The guard nearly peed in his pants. Shaking his head quickly. "Good."
"And if you speak a word of this to anyone..." He closed the distance between them and picked his chin. His sharp claws digging into his skin, drawing blood. The guard felt as though his throat would rip open with any slight movement.
"No, never. No one will hear of this." He said, his lips quivered.
"Good."
Boax snapped his fingers and everything went back to normal, he finally saw daylight, he had never felt so happy to see sunlight. He raised his hands up as though he could touch the sun. Thanking the gods for saving him.
He didn't waste time. He rushed back into the tower and told the guards to open the gates. The other guards flashed him a look. Wasn't he the one who said they shouldn't open the gates just now?
One approached him. "You okay?" He asked worriedly and the guard flashed him and awkward smile. "I'm fine just tired that all."
Sebastian climbed back on the horse, with a smug smile dancing on his lips. "What did you do?" She asked, her brows knitted in confusion.
"Nothing. I just threatened him slightly, that's all." He replied, hitting the reigns making the horse proceed through the gates, slowly.
They walked through and the guards shut the gates behind them. When they entered into Nevaline citadel, Seraph's jaw dropped. The place was the definition of the word beautiful in simplicity.
All the city roads were covered in weathering cobblestone, the town bustling with life as the sweet sound of chattering and footsteps filled the air. The streets were literally with fairy lights and signs which pointed in every direction, showing the people where they were.
The grasses were scattered around the streets but were properly trimmed and glimmered with life. The rays of light bounced off the green leaves giving the place a serene feel.
"Wow." She gasped, her eyes wide as she took in her surroundings. Sebastian found her expression cute so he let her have her moment as he slowly made her way to a boutique.
Seraph's gazing was stopped by the abrupt hault of the horse, she snapped her gaze to Sebastian. "Why'd you stop?"
"We're here." He said as he jumped down from the saddle and made his way to her. "Where is here exactly?" She asked, taking his hand as he helped down from the cart.
"A boutique." He stated and she furrowed her brows. "A what?"
"Boutique—" he said and he could tell she was still confused. Did she really not know anything about the human world?
"It's a place where people buy clothes." He answered her unsaid questions. "Oh." She said shortly, gazing at the small store. " So, what are we doing here?" She asked.
"We are here to buy a Kingdom. Dummy" he said, his tone etched with sarcasm. If she didn't know much about human culture how would she be able to live as a princess with the prince. The ball was tomorrow, she didn't have much time.
He could tell she wanted to say something, probably an insult, so he shushed her and pulled her into the shop. "What's with you? It's not like the shop is going anywhere." She snapped annoyed. She wanted to admire the exterior of the shop but he dragged her in so abruptly.
Sebastian ignored her and walked to the shop owner, who worked on the sowing machine, humming a beautiful tone.
"Um hi, good day ma'am." Sebastian greeted and the woman looked up, with a warm smile. "You're welcome dear. Is there anything specifically you're looking for?" She asked and when she saw that Sebastian didn't understand her question she elaborated. "Like what style are you going for, we have different styles in different sizes."
He nodded understandingly. "Oh, do you have something a princess would wear?" He inquired and the woman grinned as though she had won the jackpot. These people could be royals in disguise and she was sure they would pay a lot of money if she brought them quality products. She didn't want to disappoint want to disappoint them.
"You've come to the right place." She stood up from her sowing machine and adjusted her lenses, sizing Seraph with her eyes. Seraph felt some kind of discomfort when the woman stared at her for minutes straight and didn't say a word.
"Come with me." She ordered and Seraph glanced at Sebastian, who gave her an assuring smile. She drew a breath and followed the woman into a room. The woman left her there and she felt a bit uncomfortable. The room was oddly small and she felt as though the walls were closing in on her, she felt a little bit nauseous and clasped her lips shut to stop herself from puking.
The woman came back with racks and racks of clothes. "Try these on, we'll be outside waiting for you." She turned around and shut the door behind her.
Seraph reached for the clothes and when he fingers grazed it she could feel that authenticity of the material. It felt so exquisite. The dresses were fancy, each piece more striking than the last but only one caught her eye.
A lapiz blue ball gown, layered with different hues of blue each on more beautiful and brighter then the last. She picked it out of the rack and put it on. She stared at herself in the mirror, her hair down in beautiful waves, glimmering in the light.
The dress glowed as she twirled as though fireflies danced within it. She felt so beautiful, she wished her mother could see her in this dress. She would have been so happy.
She finished her look with a blue stiletto. She felt beautiful and pretty. She never knew how exciting it was to feel this way.
She turned and raised the front of the dress up and she walked out of the room to show Sebastian. She wanted to his opinion although she didn't care but she wanted to know what he had to say about the dress and when stepped out, both Sebastian and woman looked stunned, as though they had seen something bad.
"Why are you both looking at me like that?" She looked at the dress. "Is there something wrong with my dress?" She asked, to be sure what they were shocked about.
"You look stunning." Sebastian rasped and Seraph felt something flutter in her chest.
Being called stunning was a normal thing for her, but when Sebastian said it, it carried some kind of ring to it.
It made her pulse jump but she couldn't believe it was her, it was probably the dress. The dress was beautiful so she couldn't blame Sebastian.
Turning to the lady, Sebastian said: "We'll take this one and a few others." She nodded and walked to the changing room and pick some of the most expensive clothes from the rack. "They were royalty as this wouldn't be much for them." She thought, her eyes crinkled with greed.
Seraph came back in her normal outfit and walked to Sebastian. "Why were you looking at me like that?" She asked, mischievously with a smirk dancing on her lips.
"Like what?" He feigned ignorance. She closed the distance between them, staring deep into his eyes. "Do you like me?" She teased, her voice laced with a hint of seduction. His face got all red and it made her laugh.
"Oh my God, look at him. Such a cute tomato." She mocked and he looked away shyly. She was about to say something more when the shop owner came back with some bags of clothes.
If only. If only she knew what those words did to him. Or how close he was to losing control. Boax stirred in the shadows of his mind, whispering, "She's ours. Claim her."
