Chapter 8 - A Small Problem

"I am so sorry about that!" As the red haired ranger bowed her head, Katsuri waved her hand without much care.

"No, it was my fault for not being used to the sight. My hometown doesn't actually have any Tacet Discords... nor bandits ready to slaughter people. So I never really got used to blood."

It was a half an hour after the incident involving the bandits, and Danjin had just washed away the blood on her skin and clothes using the water from a nearby river.

Of course, the smell was still there but it wasn't as strong as before.

Hearing her words, Danjin smiled in melancholy.

"I see, that's great."

Not knowing her next course of action, Katsuri thought of following wherever Danjin would go to.

Since she had her orientation messed up while running away from the two TDs, she only had one person she could rely on at this moment.

And that person was Danjin, another foreigner in an unfamiliar land.

"I don't actually have an exact order when they sent me here, since I was the one that requested for a visit... I think I have about a couple more months before I need to return back to Jinzhou? I suppose I am going to be exploring Rinascita. What about you?"

Exploring Rinascita?

Actually, that's a good idea.

While Katsuri did play Wuthering Waves for a while, she did not play for long enough to be called a vateran.

In fact, she could easily be called a casual player. Not only does she not focus much on the lore of the world, she doesn't even recognize most of the place's on the map!

She simply moved the map, click on a way point, then teleport.

It was as simple as a click of a button.

Perhaps walking around, exploring the place, could jog her memory?

Maybe by some miracle she'd be able to know a location just by looking at the general direction, who knows?

"I thought of going to Ragunna city... actually, I was on my way to Ragunna city yesterday, if not for the fact that some Tacet Discord suddenly got in my way."

"That's very unfortunate..."

Danjin's gaze flowed over to Katsuri's face.

It was very clean, clear of any acne but also very pale. It was as if she had never went outside before.

The scratches on her exposed skin, the dark bags under her eyes, plus the messy hair...

She doesn't look like she'd survive even another day out in the wild.

"Could you stand up for a moment?"

"Yes?"

Surprised by the sudden request, Katsuri half-heartedly agreed.

As she tried to stand up, her leg buckled before she got caught by Danjin.

Danjin supported her weight as she straighten her leg.

Standing like this really showed the height difference between the two of them.

For Katsuri, she had to actually tilt her head upwards just to catch a glimpse of Danjin's face.

Meanwhile, the ranger had to bend down to make sure their eyes are at the same height.

It was no wonder she had mistaken her as a child...

Wait a minute, that misunderstanding wasn't solved yet.

"There we go, there were some bugs stuck on your waist just now. Are you alright with bugs?"

Looking at Danjin's hand that was holding onto a giant light blue beetle, she shivered.

'That thing was on me...!?'

"I don't have a problem with them... but are you sure that guy was stuck on me?"

"Yeah, but looking at the color, it doesn't seem to be local."

As Danjin supported Katsuri by holding onto her arm, she moved a bit away to place the beetle on the tree trunk.

"Although I don't have much time here, I think I can accompany you. I did think of visiting Ragunna city in a while. This just moved my schedule forward a bit."

She smiled softly, but Katsuri can't help but feel a bit... terrified. Even she doesn't know why.

"I can't leave out a child out in the wild, after all. That is not my style at all."

With the way she's saying that, it almost felt like she wouldn't have left her alone even if she had asked.

But that works too. She did need someone to protect her before she could reach safe haven.

[Wuthering Waves]

"What? A variable? What do you mean?" Phrolova wiped her hair dry as she questioned her accomplice.

"Yes. I was writing the script for my next act but it suddenly felt... off. It felt like an outsider had suddenly taken over the role I've given to someone."

Phrolova didn't immediately push his thought process down.

Christoforo continued on his words, "It could be that there is something I'm missing."

"So? What are you going to do about it? We still haven't broken Scar out yet."

"No, It's alright. I think a prologue to the next Act should be fine. I am sure the actors wouldn't mind a little devising from my part."

Squinting her one eye, Phrolova glance towards Christoforo.

"You're not going to interfere with my part, are you?"

"What? What makes you think that? Of course not."

"Good. The curtain to the Carnevale is about to open, I wouldn't want somebody else to steal the spot light." Summoning her Lycoris, she waved it around.

"After all, a symphony only needed one Orchestrator." She smiled.

[Wuthering Waves]

"...This wasn't supposed to happen. What... led to this? How come there are two now? I already have my hand full dealing with one!" Cantarella gripped her head as she exclaimed in frustration.

It wasn't in her prediction that a second Threnodian would suddenly appear.
