Chapter 10 - Party time

"Evan you little devil you! Ever since you dealt with those rat bastards, more and more of my men have reported less sightings of guild members and have been raking in gold. How did you do it?" Mr.Woods asked as he brought out a suit that fitted Evan very nicely.

"It was simple really. Executing it was the main issue but we managed."

"What did you do to them?"

"I just smoked them out and blocked the entrance. I also had some of the special venom you gave to me a while back and also burned it so that it would be a breathable gas." Evan explained as he fitted his tie.

Turning around, Evan asked for any input on the suit he had put on. Mr.Woods clapped his hands and complimented his handsomeness. Evan sat down in a chair inside of Mr.Woods office and looked over the plan they had devised for the last time. After an hour of waiting, Evan was loaded onto the Asteria carriage along with his brother Talon.

"I didn't know you wished to attend the Calliste's party, brother. Usually when anything involves nobility, you avoid it." Evan spoke as Talon ignored him.

"Is this about Miss Evelyne by any chance?" Evan asked as he caught the flustered look in Talon's eyes.

"What's your deal?! You think just because father took pity on you and didn't banish you from the family after that stunt, doesn't mean I won't hesitate to kill you?!" Talon yelled, grabbing a hold of Evans collar and raising him from his seat.

"You're a piece of filth. A rat bastard. You'll always continue to pester those who are better than you and one day you'll lose your head because of it!"

Shouting at the top of his lungs, Talon took a breath.

"Are you finished? It was quite unsightly." Evan said as Talon clicked his tongue.

He released Evans Collar who arranged it back to before. Taking his seat he looked back out the window as a smile unconsciously grew on Evans face.

After a long ride, the carriage had come to a halt. The doors opened as both Evan and Talon stepped out to be greeted by some of the Calliste servants. Talon smiled and greeted them, as Evan yelled:

"Hah?! Shouldn't the family's head greet his visitors when they arrive?" Evan stated, as a loud laugh escapes the lungs of a man who began to walk to them.

"Evan Asteria. Still insufferable as ever I see. Talon, good to see you here as well." A man hulking in height and size said as Evan smirked.

Standing in front of him was Dorvik Calliste, the family head and father of Evelyne. His face was rough and almost scary to look at.

His hair was short and spiky, which complimented his thug-like eyes. Shaking his hand, the grip tightened as Dorvik smiled. Quickly releasing Evans hand he gave another hearty laugh.

"Usually when I offer to shake your hand, you complain. Did something happen to the Asteria family?"

Evan shook his head as Dorvik began to lead them to the party inside.

Hundreds of people stood inside the ball room, conversing with each other and drinking. Evan walked over towards one of the servers as he grabbed a glass of wine and took a sip. His face changed. Usually his demeanor was cold and harsh, yet for the first time in a while he seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself. Walking up to a few groups of nobles, Evan conversed as well as listened in on the nearby conversations for any useful information he could potentially use in the future.

Suddenly the room went silent. Looking for the cause, Evan saw Evelyne, whose beautiful and smooth face would be able to seduce almost every man in the room. Her red hair flowed behind her, as her clouded eyes remained still.

Evelyne was blind.

As she made it to the bottom of the staircase, those who wished to get closer to her lunged at the current chance. Walking out of the building, Evan looked up towards the sky. The stars had reminded him of his previous life, when he had joined an astronomy club in his high school days.

Only then had Evan actually understood his situation. He was alone in a world he had obsessed over the past two years of his life, trying to survive from certain death. He gripped the wine glass he held as it shattered into his hand.

Evan began to panic as blood ran down his fingers onto the floor. Suddenly, a small handkerchief was placed onto his palm, coming from a soft and delicate hand.

Evan looked up to see Evelyne who held a warm smile. She gently caressed the wound on his hand before picking out the glass.

"W-Wait. Ms.Calliste don't bother with such a thing. I can handle it." Evan said, only to be ignored as Evelyne pulled his hand back towards her.

Evans' mind began to wander back to H.K.U and Evelyne. She was a part of the main group of characters. Not just that, but she would eventually come to be Talon's wife. She was kind and more considerate than most in the game. She was also one of his favorite characters. Guilt slowly began to form within himself, when Evelyne's grip tightened on his hand.

"You seem sad." She spoke with a soft and kind tone which caught Evan off guard.

After taking a moment to compose himself, Evan laughed before breaking her grip on his hand.

"You're mistaken Ms.Calliste. I'm quite the opposite in fact. Your family has thrown an excellent party. You must be proud to-"

"Holy shit you're annoying." Evelyne said, she leaned over the balcony.

Evan froze, before laughing out loud.

"S-Sorry I think my hearing might be worse than I thought. Could you by chance repeat what you said."

"What are you, fucking deaf? I said you're annoying!"

Evans' mental world slowly spiraled and collapsed on itself as a few of the lines Evelyne said within H.K.U slowly broke.

"What, surprised little Evelyne knows a few swear words? God yall are all the same." She spoke before pulling out a cigar from a small pouch from her pocket.

"Apologies. It was just that…I was given a different impression of you." Evan said with a weak smile which shook.

A brief moment of silence took over, as Evan swatted away the smoke coming from her cigar. Her demeanor from before had completely vanished, now showing a girl who seemed tired with everything. She rested her arm on the railing and held her cheek as she took a deep breath.

"Uh, if it's not too rude to ask, why are you suddenly acting like this around me? For all you know I could go and tell everyone about what you're doing." Evan asked, as Evelyn bursted out laughing only to cough up smoke quickly after.

"Fuck, dont make me laugh when I have smoke in my mouth! Did you forget that your Evan Asteria? Who in their right mind would believe someone like you with your reputation to boot." She explained.

'I mean she got me there. It's not like I'm the most trustworthy person.'

"Then why? You could have easily avoided all of this."

"Because I was bored. And I also wanted to see your reaction. It was priceless!" She said, laughing like a demon.

"Well if you're done with using me for your amusement, I must be going then. I have important things to do." Evan said, walking off through the doors.

As he walked through the crowds of people, he finally made it through the entrance and headed towards the flower garden behind the manor.

'Alright let's go and find where Woods' men are. They shouldn't be too far from this area.'

Exploring more of the garden, Evan began to enjoy the smell the flowers gave off. He sat down to take a small break from searching when a shadow suddenly consumed him. Turning his head upward, a giant behemoth of a man stood. Evan fell backwards in fear as a familiar demonic laugh came from the top of his shoulder.

"What are you, a scaredy cat?! What was with that reaction?" Evelyne asked, holding her belly as she continued to laugh loudly.

"You followed me? What for?"

"Because I was curious what your important business was, and so far it seems pretty sad."

'Why is she so different? She used to be an angel in H.K.U! The Evelyne I know wouldn't treat someone like this, even if it was Evan!'

"So why are you sitting in my garden? Were you meeting with someone?" Evelyne asked.

"Y-yeah. Seems like they are running late though," Evan said, as a dagger flew towards his face.

In a brief moment, the guard caught the dagger before putting Evelyne down next to Evan. Twelve armed men in black clothing emerged from the shadows, slowly moving in towards the three.

'Woah, Woods went all out with the outfits. I am kind of worried though since Evelyne brought one of her guards.'

As Evan was stuck in thought, blood splattered all over his face as the guard fell down from the ground. The guard had died almost instantaneously as his head rolled over towards Evans' feet. He smirked before lifting up Evelyne and ran.

"W-What are you doing! What's happening!" Evelyne asked.

"Assassins! We need to get out of here now!" Evan shouted as he ran towards the borders of the property, away from sight and sound.

Heavily breathing, Evan placed the girl down as the twelve men surrounded them. Evan gave them a thumbs up before walking up to one of them.

"Sorry, but you won't be laying a finger on her." Evan said as he actingly swung at one of the men.

In an instant, the man grabbed Evans arm and shot his knee into his stomach. Evan fell to the ground, coughing up spit as a foot stomped down onto his head. He gripped his stomach which burned with pain.

'W-Whats going on! This was not part of the plan!'

"What the hell are you do-"

A kick connected to Evans face as blood began to run down from his nose. Quickly standing up, Evan readied his fists as he looked around.

'These must not be my men. Fuck…'

As one of the men reached towards Evelyne who was unable to do anything, Evan charged towards him. Using the pommel of his sword, the man swung down onto Evans back as he fell to the ground once again.

"Grab the girl and boy. We leave now before anyone notices." One of the men said as Evan was turned on his back.

A foot rose up over his face before crashing down.
