The Triplets' Home — Living Room
Thatcher's POV
After driving Madison to the house, I left her with my brothers. She had a lot of fun with them, and when it was time to go, Julian drove her home. I can't seem to concentrate since that incident with Madison's stepsister.
I've been trying to understand why I felt that spark for her, but I can't come to any conclusion. Why can't I stop thinking about her? Why did I feel a connection with her? Why did my wolf suddenly howl in my head at the sight of her? Every hair on my body stood up the second our fingers touched. Why did it happen? I can't understand!
Madison was prophesied as our fated mate; she is our mate. I shouldn't feel this way about other females. I can only have feelings for her. I should only have feelings for Madison. What went wrong at that moment? I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice when Julian and Logan joined me at the bar area of our home.
Logan sat beside me in the customer area, and Julian took the bartender's position.
"Now spill it," Julian groaned. "I can't watch this anymore." He pulled out a bottle of whiskey and poured a little into a glass.
"Yeah, what the fuck happened, bro?" Logan, the youngest, turned to me. "You've been out of it for hours."
"I don't know," I let out a disappointed sigh before downing my last shot of vodka.
"Talk to us. Does it have to do with Madison? Her birthday is in a week; are you nervous? Are you anxious?" Julian pressed. He's the curious type; nothing gets past him. He knows me better than I know myself and always puts our safety first.
"Nah, it's not that." I shook my head and handed my glass to him. He filled it with whiskey and gave it back to me.
"Then what is it?" Logan asked.
"Something unusual happened earlier. I've been trying to figure it out, but the more I think about it, the more absurd it gets," I answered before finishing the whiskey in one shot.
"Okay?"
"It's about Madison's sister—her stepsister. You know her, right?" I looked from Julian to Logan.
"Yeah," Logan frowned. "What about her?"
"What do you think about her?" I asked.
"Her? Why should we think about her?" Julian looked at me, confused. He wasn't wrong. Why am I thinking about her? Fuck!
"I touched her by accident today, and..." I paused and exhaled. "I can't explain it. It felt weird; I felt very weird."
"You need to explain this feeling," Julian leaned closer, urging me. "How did you feel when you touched her?"
"Excited. Happy. I felt the need to hold her. The worst part is, I think my wolf felt it too. He wanted her. I don't know why it happened, but it did." After my explanation, Julian and Logan exchanged glances.
"That's strange," Logan admitted. "I think I need a drink, too," he said.
Julian took out another glass and poured whiskey.
"Do you think she felt the same way?" After a brief pause, Julian raised the question.
"Yeah," I nodded. "I could tell from her expression. I tried to talk to her, but Madison stopped me," I explained.
"Hmm, but we only get one mate. Why did that happen?" Julian swirled his drink, thinking.
"I think we should see her," Logan suggested after a few minutes. "Let's see her. I need to check, too. Let's stop overthinking and go to her."
"Are you crazy?" I looked at him. "She lives with Madison. They live in the same house!"
"I know," Logan said, shaking his head, "but we could see her in private."
"Madison isn't home; I dropped her at her friend's place," Julian added.
"She's not home?" I looked at him.
"Alright, I'll get dressed; we're going to her," Logan said, leaving to get ready, leaving Julian and me alone.
"What do you think will happen?" Julian asked.
"I don't know; we just have to wait and see how things turn out," I sighed.
**
We reached Beta Benjamin's house a few minutes later. We found Benjamin and his wife sitting in their living room.
"Are you here to see Madison?" Benjamin stood up to welcome us.
"Yeah, is she in?" I asked.
"I believe so. I'll send a maid to call her and..." He was still speaking when Logan interrupted.
"We'll go to her; we know where her room is," he said.
"Okay," Benjamin smiled and sat back with his wife.
We climbed the stairs and soon found the girls' room—Madison's stepsister's. I don't know her name yet, but I'll find out soon.
When we reached her room, we knocked and waited. She opened the door a few seconds later. Her expression shifted from surprise to disbelief, then fear as she stared at us.
"What... What do you want?" She stepped back from the door.
Is she scared of us?
"I'm sorry for touching you earlier; I didn't mean to. I was only trying to get my sister's attention," she quickly apologized, but we ignored her words and entered her room.
When she saw us coming closer, she shut her eyes, probably expecting the worst, but our next action definitely surprised her.
"Can we talk to you?" Logan asked gently.
"Spare us a minute of your time," Julian requested.
"What?" She slowly opened her eyes and examined our faces. After a moment, she stepped back three times and cleared her throat.
"Please leave," she demanded.
What?! My brothers and I exchanged glances. Did she just...?
"I don't want trouble; please go to Madison. She will be here soon," she continued.
"We have something to say to you. Give us a chance and—"
"No! Please go. Please go away!" she yelled. "I do not wish to speak to you," she insisted.
Just then, Madison appeared at the door. "What is going on here?" She asked, looking at each of us.
"What are you doing in her room?"
