Chapter 4 - Confidence is key

Cassandra Ricci - POV

"As you mentioned, it is one of the largest and most powerful packs among the werewolves, which has also acquired quite a lot of powerful enemies as well, Miss. Ricci. Alpha Bellucci said that the tension between the rogues has become a nuisance." Mr. Dimitri began when I looked at him.

"What are you suggesting, Mr. Dimitri?" I asked him when I saw him look at my resume again.

"You have only done a basic diploma in magic, Miss. Ricci. And we cannot send in an amateur witch like you." I knew they would not agree. I have been MIA for the past few years, and they do not trust in my abilities.

"I understand, but you don't have any vacancies anywhere else." I pointed out the fact, and I knew I had made my point.

"If you go there, we can never guarantee your life. Two of our most powerful witches didn't come out of there alive as you know." Mr. Conti warned me. The elders must be thinking that I am either overconfident about my abilities, or I am just plain stupid, but whatever it may be, I know I am out of options. My mother's life is on the line, and I cannot back out.

"I understand," I said when both of them looked at each other before writing something on the paper.

"We cannot give you the pack just because you have requested it. There are certain tests you must pass, and if you do, then we will arrange for you to go there, all right?" Mr. Dimitri asked me when I nodded my head.

"Thank you," I said when Mr. Dimitri nodded his head as he slid my file towards me as I got up from my place ready to leave.

"The tests will be conducted today. You can go and ask the receptionist downstairs about the details." Mr. Conti said when I nodded my head as I walked out of the room. Abigail got up from her place when she saw me walk out.

"What happened?" she asked me as we made our way to the elevator.

"They have asked me to take a few tests, and if I pass that, then my job is confirmed," I told her as we walked into the elevator.

"Cassie."

"Hmm."

"These tests aren't going to be easy." Abigail's words made me look at her with a confused glance.

"What do you mean? It's just a written exam, right?" I asked her, but from the concerned look on her face, I feel like this is going to be more than what I am expecting. As we reached the ground floor, we got out of the elevator and made our way to the reception.

"Miss. Ricci, are you taking your test today?" the receptionist asked me.

"Um, can I switch dates?" I asked her when she nodded her head.

"You can, but the next test will be conducted three days from now."

"Three days? Why is that?" I asked her when she finally looked at me as if I had fallen out of the sky.

"It's Cupid's Day tomorrow. We are closed for the next three days," she said in a duh tone. I completely forgot about it. I have never celebrated Cupid's Day because my parents and I moved out of this town as soon as I finished high school.

But I had always wanted to attend that party and see what it's like. To attend this party, there are some rules. You need to be over nineteen, and you should not be in a relationship, married, or engaged. This party takes place once a year on the eve of the fourteen of February, and there is a prophecy surrounding this day. Sharp at midnight, the senior witches would offer you a drink called the soul, and if you consumed it, it would open the opportunity to find your mate.

I have never heard anyone find their soulmates that way since it's a rare occurrence, but they say that it has happened before. "Ma'am?" the receptionist called me.

"Oh, I am sorry, I will just take it now," I told her when she nodded her head. Five minutes later, she printed out a form and gave it to me.

"Your tests would be conducted on the second floor, room number three," she said as I thanked her and stepped away.

"I will meet you once this is over?" Abigail asked me when I nodded my head. "Best of luck, Cassie," she said as she pulled me into a hug.

"Thank you," I told her as she stepped back and began walking out of there. I took a deep breath and made my way to the elevator again. I took a deep breath before pressing the elevator button. As I stepped inside, I closed my eyes and tried to calm my nerves as the elevator began its ascent.

As I reached the second floor, I stepped out to see that it was empty as well. As I made my way to room number three, I lightly knocked on the door as I waited. "Come in." I heard a faint voice as I pushed the door and walked inside.

There was a woman, probably in her late thirties, seated behind a desk. "Miss. Ricci, right?" she asked me when I nodded my head as she gestured for me to take a seat.

This room didn't look like an office at all. There were three shelves against the walls with various glass jars filled with different colored liquids, specimens, plants, magic dust, and a lot of other things.

On the desk in front of me, there was a crystal globe, and she had a few other bowls with different colored liquids in them. My eyes moved to the nameplate next to the globe which read Francis Wix.

"I would first like to see you create a protective barrier around that ball." Miss. Wix said when I nodded my head and turned around to see the ball on the floor.

I took a deep breath as I closed my eyes and I felt my magic flow through my veins.
