Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Halls

As I was walking along the bustling main road, I can't help but take in the architecture of the city. Large 2 and 3 story stone work buildings line either side of the road, contrasting with the worn cobble stone I'm walking on. One couldn't help but wonder where all this stone came from.

I had not seen a mountain or quarry as I was approaching the city. I was contemplating this, when I saw the signs hanging from the two largest buildings along this street. The one on the left was the Guild Hall, and the one on the right was the Adventures Hall.

Glancing between the two magnificent buildings, pondering the choice I had to make. I didn't have any knowledge of what either hall had to offer. So I just decided to take my chances, and flip a coin. Heads I was heading to the left, tails I was heading right. Taking out a copper piece and tossing it up, as I watched it turn in the air and clank to the ground, landing on heads. I collected the copper piece, and went left.

Entering the Guild Hall, there were multiple Guild Associations. Each having their own registration window. I took my time to read each sign untill I saw my desired window, the Smithing Guild Association, excitedly making my way to that window.

As I approached the counter, an elven woman greets me with a sing song voice. "Hello traveler, welcome to the Thescia branch of the Smithing Guild Association. Will you be registering with us tonight, or placing a request?"

I look at her fondly, my face lifting in a wide smile "I would love to register,If you don't mind"

The elven woman matched my smile and said, "I will need to know what your current experience level is in the smithing field."

I hesitated for a moment, and then opened my status screen. The elf woman's eyes went wide as she seen my 'Master crafter' skill, even though my smithing proficiency was only at the beginning rank.

The woman composed herself, and pulled out few forms. starting the process of registering me for the guild, she asked my name, class, subclass, and age. Getting my class and subclass she had already surmised that I was wanting to be an Armourer. After filling out the forms she asked, "would you be willing to try your hand at weapon smithing as well?"

I looked at the woman in confusion for a long moment, and then said "am I allowed to do that, as my subclass is Armourer?"

The woman laughed at my words, her laughter was enough to melt any man's heart. After a moment of her delightful laughter, she composed herself and said "you subclass is Armourer that is true, but you main class is smith. What that means is you can do any job under the smithing category, although Armourer job you will have more bonus experience in. That will allow you to advance faster in that specific job."

After hearing the lovely woman's description, and gain a better understanding of how my class works. I nod my head, and confirm that I will in fact try my hand at all jobs under the smithing class. The woman marks a few more things on the forms, and slides them into something under the counter. A few moments later, a bronze badge is presented to me. The badge depicted an anvil with crossed hammer and tongs over it.

"This is your official Thescia smithing associate badge!" The woman said. I smiled again, and then asked "where can a tired, hungry, and thirsty person find a place to bed down for the night?"

The woman gives me the direction to the inn not far from this hall. I thank her and turn to leave, but then stop and turn back to her. "I'm sorry I forgot a few questions, first of all what's your name?" I asked.

The womans smile spreads over her face and slight blush following. "I'm Elie." She said.

"Ah Elie, such a lovely name for a lovely woman. My second question, how do I advance in the association?" I replied.

The blush on her cheeks deepens as she hears my words. She takes a moment to compose herself and the said, "ah yes I forgot to explain that to you, every time your rank in you smithing class rises so does your association rank."

I nod in understanding, then bid Elie a good night as I make my way out of the guild hall. It only takes me a few minutes to find the inn I was directed to. Entering through the large oak doors, I am greeted by a busling dining hall filled with all manor of folks drinking and laughing. I take a seat near the edge of the room, and wave to a bar maid. A few moments later she approached asking what she could get for me. I asked "could I get a room for the night, a bowl of stew, and a tankerd of ale please?" The bar maid nods and turns away. A few minutes later she brings out the bowl tankerd and a key with the number 13 on it. "Your room is upstairs last room on the left, that's 7 copper for everything." She said.

I pull out the copper and pay the lady, the proceed to eat my fill and drink my ale before heading upstairs to my rented room. The room is spars, only furnished with a bed and a dresser, but it's a place to sleep the night in safety.
