Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Advancing to Da Dou Shi

The moment Yao Lao sensed that the violent aura surrounding Xiao Yan had dissipated, he finally let out a breath of relief. It seemed the invading soul had been destroyed. But just as that thought crossed his mind, an energy wave—far more intense and ferocious than before—erupted from Xiao Yan's body.

Yao Lao's expression instantly darkened. He feared the worst had happened. But upon closer inspection, he realized the energy, while turbulent, lacked the malicious aura typical of soul possession. It didn't feel corrupted—it wasn't a hostile force.

Lowering his gaze, he quickly discovered the source of the disturbance: the seventh-rank Magic Core that had been in Xiao Yan's hand was now shattered into powder. The immense, surging energy came from the disintegrated core and was flooding into Xiao Yan's body.

Seeing this, Yao Lao's heart sank. Even though Xiao Yan hadn't been possessed, there was still no reason to feel reassured. With Xiao Yan's current strength, absorbing the raw energy of a Magic Core could only have one result—his body would explode.

Let alone a seventh-rank Magic Core—even the lowest-grade cores couldn't be absorbed casually. Even a Dou Wang absorbing a first-rank core would face a significant risk of combustion from the energy backlash.

This wasn't because Magic Core energy was uniquely potent, but because it inherited the beast's innate brutality. The energy was wild and untamable. Only a high-level alchemist with the proper methods could extract and refine this energy safely into pills.

And the core in question wasn't just any core—it was a seventh-rank Magic Core! That was equivalent to the energy of a Dou Zong. Xiao Yan, still a mere Dou Shi, had no way of withstanding that.

At that moment, Xiao Yan also sensed the terrifying energy rushing into his system. He had been calmly refining the soul energy, already close to finishing, when he suddenly felt a power invading him that was far beyond his tolerance. His face immediately turned pale.

He used his soul power to investigate his body and quickly discovered a thick, purple-black liquid coursing through his meridians. The violent energy was coming from it. From his wealth of knowledge, Xiao Yan instantly realized—it was beast blood essence.

Unexpectedly, that Blackflame Purplecloud Eagle had not only hidden its soul inside the core, but had also sealed away some of its blood essence.

Such energy would be nothing to the Xiao Yan of his previous life as the Demonic Wrath Saint—but in his current state, it was overwhelming. In just a few breaths, he felt as if his body would explode. This wild energy far surpassed what he could withstand.

Just then, that mysterious black flame reappeared. The previously raging energy suddenly seemed to be drawn to it and rushed into the fire on its own. The blood essence followed, continuously feeding the black flame. At the same time, the Flame Mantra technique within Xiao Yan's body began to operate on its own—as if it were evolving.

Under normal circumstances, Flame Mantra only evolved when devouring new flames. But now, without absorbing any flame, it had started transforming. The only explanation was that the black flame itself had evolved, and so the Flame Mantra followed suit.

Though Xiao Yan had never heard of flames being able to evolve, that was the only plausible explanation for the phenomenon.

He didn't dwell on it too long. The more pressing matter was the remnant energy still left in his body. Though most of it had been swallowed by the black flame, a small portion remained, and even that was enough to cause him searing pain.

Taking a deep breath, he activated his soul power to suppress the leftover violent energy. At his current level, refining it entirely wasn't realistic. The only solution was to redirect it elsewhere in his body; otherwise, he would still risk exploding.

Forming a seal with his hands, a pair of substantial purple-black wings suddenly emerged from his back—Purplecloud Wings, the flying Dou Technique he had obtained from the cave.

As soon as the wings materialized, the wild energy rampaging in his body found an outlet and surged into them. The wings expanded in size, nearly doubling, and the purple markings on the black feathers grew more complex and intricate.

Since Purplecloud Wings and the Blackflame Purplecloud Eagle came from the same origin, Xiao Yan simply used the energy to enhance the wings. With the energy crisis managed, he turned his focus to the remaining beast blood.

Though the leftover blood essence was still potent, the danger was significantly reduced after the black flame devoured most of it and a portion went to strengthening the wings. Xiao Yan began running Flame Mantra, refining what remained in his body.

From the outside, Yao Lao noticed the sudden disappearance of Xiao Yan's turbulent aura and finally relaxed. Though he wasn't sure what had happened, it looked like the boy had made it through.

Even though the blood essence left behind was small in quantity, it still took Xiao Yan a full day and night to completely refine it. That was only possible because of his powerful soul strength—otherwise, he would've been left in a miserable state.

When the last trace of energy was absorbed, Xiao Yan slowly opened his eyes. A glint of purple-black flashed in his pupils, followed by a surge of tremendous energy erupting from his body. This energy was several times stronger than before, forcefully breaking past the barrier between Dou Shi and Da Dou Shi—he had successfully advanced!

"So I've broken through to Da Dou Shi…" Feeling the rich, vigorous energy flowing through his body, Xiao Yan exhaled softly. As expected of the blood of a seventh-rank beast—even the remnants had saved him months of effort. Furthermore, during the refinement process, the blood had permeated his flesh and meridians, strengthening his body.

By his estimation, his current physical strength was no less than that of a third-rank magic beast. After all, the Eight Extremities Collapse technique he practiced also required a strong physique, so he had never slacked on tempering his body. Now, with the eagle's blood essence as reinforcement, it was like giving wings to a tiger.

If he were to fight She Mo again, there would be no repeat of their last hard-fought battle. Xiao Yan now had enough power to kill him head-on—without even needing to use the Flame Splitting Tsunami Ruler.
