Chapter 4 - Sandstorming

An eerie silence had taken over the room. The only sound that could be heard was the rhythmic tapping of a man sitting in a chair.

There were several other people in the room, all standing, all looking at the man. Nervousness was written all over the face of the people in the room, except for the man in the chair.

Something that connected each and every person in that room was the knowledge of their fate, specifically their coming demise.

There was nothing any of them could do to stop it, and they knew that if there was a good place to go to after they pass on, they weren't making it.

For they had dared to break a rule from whatever pokemon resides up high, and every person in that room were dreading what was coming, all except the man in the chair.

With a smile on his face the man waited to greet his end, everything he truly cared about was already safe from the coming storm, and the pride that the felt outweighed all the dread in his body.

The team that he had built was powerful enough to anger pokemon who had previously sat idle, but now they move to destroy humanity itself.

Looking outside the window in front of the man he could see a small pink creature staring at the man through the window, before the window shattered in an instant.

The man knew, it was his time.

"Zzz, Alakazam, zzZz, Doduo, zZzz, Venonat," Liam snored.

"LIAM," the old lady yelled out.

"Ma'am!" Liam said snapping back into the land of the awake.

"What should you do if you encounter a pokemon in the city?" she asked in a loud tone.

"You should," Liam began to say.

"Run!" the lady interrupted, "No should about it, just run," she said, displeased with Liam.

"Yes ma'am," Liam answered, wiping his tired eyes.

In Liam's defense, the sandstorm outside scraping at the building was an amazing source of white noise to fall asleep to.

"It seems that our time today has come to an end," the lady said in a kindly voice, "I will hopefully see you all tomorrow," she said clasping her hands together.

Getting up Liam could see about every kid taking out their backpack and putting on their sandstorm outfits.

Outside the sandstorm was raging on, and Liam knew it was a pokemon causing this. His biggest point of proof was that the city he lived in was surrounded by forests.

As Liam put his own gear on, one kid started to ask around for extra pieces of gear.

Either because something broke, they forgot something, or because they were too poor to own it to begin with.

While Liam's family wasn't the richest, having a lumberjack in the family, even if their gone, gives routine paychecks. Even then, almost no one ever becomes a lumberjack.

Liam had to ignore the people trying to get extra parts, he still had to get a Razz berry for Meowth.

"Please," he begged, "I live close to the wall, if I wait for the sandstorm I'll get home by night," he explained, "And if I leave now, I could get lost! Please I just need some goggles," he begged again.

While the wall blocked most pokemon, flying types were hard to block, Zubats and Golbats were a large problem.

But Liam had to ignore him, while he had extra goggles, his mom would get mad if he just gave them away.

"What?" the kid asked as Liam approached him.

And even if Liam asked the kid to give them back tomorrow, there's no way of knowing if the kid would ever give them back.

"Are," the kid said uncertainly, "Are you leading these to me?" the kid said looking at the goggles that Liam was handing him.

But it's really a shame that Liam lost his extra goggles in the sandstorm, absolutely not his fault.

"Thank you so much," the kid said.

"Don't mention it, please," Liam responded putting on his own googles.

Getting out the door, Liam quickly felt the sandstorm trying to blow him around.

Though with his feet planted on the ground and the goggles on his head keeping the sand out of his eyes, the sandstorm wasn't too much of a bother.

And with time and effort Liam made his way out of the sandstorm, and he ended up right next to the Razz berry stand.

Though the person who ran the stand was nowhere to be found due to the sandstorm that was very close to the stand, but it was obvious that the merchant left in a hurry considering that there were still Razz berry's up on the stand.

Then something weird happened, a Razz berry made its way from the stand and into Liam's backpack. And somehow, the money that Liam was going to pay the Razz berry seller ended up safely in the stand.

So weird.

After getting the Razz berry and having to listen to the teacher talking about all the ways that pokemon could end him, Liam was more than happy to go home.

But wait, turning around and looking at the sandstorm closer Liam could notice a slight curve.

Which means that the sandstorm could be circular, with the center of the circle having the pokemon that caused the sandstorm.

Of course, the pokemon that caused the sandstorm could have just moved on, but what kind of person would Liam be if he didn't at least check?

Liam lined himself up in a way that he could just walk forward and hit the center of the sandstorm.

Walking back Liam made sure to place one foot in front of the other and not to get out of line. If he did get out of line, he may completely miss the center.

His eyes were locked onto the ground, looking for the pokemon that caused it.

Then, he noticed a small lump on the ground. Liam wondered if there was a pokemon under the lump, or if someone just dropped something in the sandstorm.

But as Liam went to dig under the lump, he felt the texture of the lump, and he knew it wasn't just dirt.

"Diglet!" the lump said.
