Now walking down the aisle as a mere substiture bride, it made me think of the possibilities if this is really my wedding, asking myself.
"Will I able to walk this calm and collected? or would I be in the verge of tears just like any other woman?"
But then, I reckoned the purpose of this wedding... To give a happy ending to the main leads of this Novel, Lucky Evans and Zane Adams.
So as I waltzed towards Zane, a deep sigh escaped my mouth, before I linked my arms to the groom.
"Sorry to bother you about this." Zane whispered as he lead me to the front of the altar.
Shaking my head, I then whispered back. "It's fine. I just can't let my event planning portfolio soiled because of someone."
Hearing that, Zane tried to pull away as if he was about to scold me for badmouthing his fiancee but, I held on his arms firmly to say that his anger could wait but the guests won't, so, once again he composed himself and let the wedding happen anyway.
After any other weddings, of course it is only given to have a reception, but with the odd things kept happening, the guests started to leave one by one without even saying their goodbyes at least to Zane.
Soon the tension Zane is feeling became palpable, and with a firm grip he dragged me out of the wedding hall and lead me inside the suite where he and Zea ought to spend their first night together.
Once we're in, Zane just turned into his beast mode on, throwing and scattering everything his hands could reach and in no time, the once elegant and romantic setup of the suite is now nothing but chaotic room.
"Let's go, I can't have you sleeping in this mess." Zane muttered, dragging me out once again, but this time, out of the hotel and into a car.
"Buckle up, I am not in the mood to act nice." He warns as he get me into the passenger seat, before going to the other side, sitting on the driver's seat.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
Shrugging, his piercing eyes looked at me. "I just need to drive to ease this tension. Will you be nice and accompany me in silence?" He questioned back, hinting a bit of vulnerability to the fact that if I say no, then he will have to face this all alone.
I can't say that I understand his feelings right now but I at least knew myself how it is face prolems alone, so with a deep sigh, I buckled up just like he wanted, and uttered "Do what you want."
It was only then his gaze softened a bit, but as the drive stretched on and we entered the highway, his anger once again resurfaced.
Driving on a full speed without an ounce of care on the world, his chest heaving, while his gaze and his grip on the steering wheel are all intense.
"Host, aren't you fearing for your life? If Mr. Adams kept going like this, it won't take while for you two to crash into someone." Bella warned me.
Shaking my head, I face palmed. "I am not fearing for my life to end here, Bella. What I am afraid is for this guy to self-destruct if I try to stop him." I replied in the back of my mind.
"But it's my job to make sure that the host isn't gonna die in the mission process." Bella explained.
"Then just tell me how did Lucky survived this ride." I muttered, totally at lost on what should I do.
Bella kept her silence for few seconds, only to say. "The original Lucky didn't have an experience like this, Host. In the original story line, Lucky was abandoned at the hotel suite by Mr. Adams."
"So, are you saying that the outcome of this scene will depend on how I react to this?" I inquired, leaning my head back to massage my temples.
Then, the car came into a sudden break. Confused and worried that we hit someone or something, I frantically looked around to check, I even reached for Zane to check if he's okay.
But instead of telling me what the hell just happened, he gently lifted my chin up and looked into my eyes, asking. "Did my driving scare you? Or is it that you're feeling unwell? I saw you massaging your temples."
"D-did you stop because of that?" I muttered in disbelief.
He nods, his gaze remained locked on me. "I'm sorry if I had scared you or made you feel uncomfortable. I was too focused on myself and forgot that you were with me." He sincerely apologized, resting his forehead on mine.
Unsure on how should I react, I called on Belle in the back on my mind.
Giggling, Belle asked. "You called for me, Host?"
"Stop giggling and help me, I don't know how to react on this!" I complained to her as my cheeks are already heating up.
But before Belle could even reply, I heard Zane's low chuckle. "You look cuter when you're blushing, Mrs. Adams."
And with that remark, my soul just left my body.
"Mrs. Adams." Belle repeated again and again, obviously teasing me.
But as I can't find words to react, Zane took it into his own understanding, leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss on my forehead, saying "You might be just a substitute wife but do know that I never disrespected a woman in my life, so rest assured that I will take care of you."
With a silent nod, I once again rested my head against the back rest of the passenger seat, while Zane starts to drive again but this time in a calmer manner.
"Tired? We can spend the night in the next hotel we will be passing by." He suggested.
"Yes, please. I could get some rest after all that." I mumbled.
Giving me a small smile with a tinge of guilt, he held my hand, saying "How can I make it up to you?"
Too tired to think, I just shook my head and said. "Just please let me rest."
Nodding, Zane lets go of my hand as he took a u-turn to a Hotel. Reaching its lobby, Zane handed his keys to the Valet Parking staff before he opened the door for me and once I'm off the car, he lead me to the reception where booked us a room.
"Hope you don't mind staying in a room with me, my wife" He whispered.
Shaking my head, I replied. "I'm fine, let's just hurry, please."
Seemingly worried about my sudden change of mood, Zane lead me to our room and there, he said. "Why don't you go take a shower, I'll go order us some change of clothes?"
Nodding, I do so and as soon I am alone, Bella went speaking in my mind again. "Already overwhelmed, Host?" She asked.
"Argh! Tell me about it, you could have told me sooner that he got some sweet mouth, I could have prepared myself to dodge!" I groaned, as I fill the bath with some warm water.
Giggling, Bella replies. "I could have done so if I am aware of that, Host. But, I honestly can't remember that he was some smooth talker in the original story."
"What do you mean? You've been saying that to me since earlier. Could it be some bug in your software?" I asked.
"No, host. I can assure you that it isn't some bug and if anything, I think the story line is now being overwritten by your choices." She answered once more and I just went for a bath.
Contemplating on Bella's words. "If all of these changes were brought by my choices, then wouldn't that mean that I had made a huge impact at the very start?" I mumbled to myself as I sink into the tub.
But after sometime, Zane came knocking at the door. "Wife, are you okay in there? The clothes are already here." He said.
Can't help but to blush with the endearment, I quickly dried myself off, put on the robe provided by the hotel, and went out with a poker face.
"You don't have to call me that when we are alone, we both know that I am just a substitute wife." I muttered.
Shaking his head, Zane looked at me in the eye and said. "Substitute or not, you are my wife and I will be treating you one. And if one day, Zea comes back and is ready to be with me then we'll part ways but it won't change the fact that we've been together."
Not wanting to drag that kind of talk any longer, I smiled and just nod before passing by him to get dressed, while he was in the shower.
And as I lay down the bed, the exhaustion claimed my body, making me doze off before he could even get into the bed with me.
