I caught Evelyn just before she hit the desk corner, her body limp in my arms. Her breathing was shallow, her face pale as porcelain.
"Call a doctor," I ordered Chloe, who stood frozen in shock.
"Is she...?"
"She's fine. Just overwhelmed." I lifted Evelyn easily, carrying her to the leather couch in her office. "Get me some water and cancel all her meetings for the next two hours."
Chloe nodded rapidly and rushed out. I gently placed Evelyn on the couch, checking her pulse. Strong and steady, just fast from stress. Her body had simply shut down to protect itself from the psychological overload.
I pressed two fingers to a pressure point on her wrist, sending a gentle flow of qi through her system to stabilize her energy. Her breathing immediately deepened, color returning to her cheeks.
Her eyes fluttered open a few minutes later, confusion clouding her features as she tried to sit up.
"Easy," I said, keeping a steadying hand on her shoulder. "You fainted."
