I watched through the window as the police cars disappeared into the night, their red and blue lights fading like dying embers. The Morgan sisters were gone, but something told me this was only the beginning.
Evelyn moved closer to me, her shoulder brushing against mine. "You're thinking about what comes next."
"Always am," I replied, still scanning the darkness beyond the villa grounds.
My phone buzzed. A text from Captain Drake: "Federal prosecutors taking over case. High priority. Sisters facing minimum fifteen years."
"Fifteen years," I said aloud.
"Good," Evelyn said firmly. "They deserve every day of it."
I wasn't so sure the story would end that cleanly. Powerful families rarely accepted defeat without exhausting every option.
Across town, Felix Morgan sat in his study, staring at his phone in disbelief. The call with Damien Pierce had ended minutes ago, but the words still echoed in his head.
"I owe your family nothing."
