Chapter 13: The Study's Door
"Eh, when did Ori get so fast? I didn't even notice. I'm starting to not understand him at all," Kushina thought to herself.
However, Kushina didn't have much time to think. Soon, they arrived at the study. Kushina stood in front of the study door, and Orion followed closely behind her, standing just two or three steps away.
Suddenly, Kushina reached out her hand and gave the closed door a light push. The tightly shut door was opened by Kushina. And from Orion's perspective, Kushina hadn't used much strength at all; she had just pushed it gently, and the door opened.
Seeing this, Orion was at a loss for words. He could only let his jaw hang open to express his astonishment. It wasn't that Orion didn't want to speak; it was that he simply couldn't say anything. The moment Kushina opened the study door, Orion was too shocked to speak.
If Orion had never come to the study before, he wouldn't have been the least bit surprised. But it was precisely because he had been here before and had used all his strength, yet to his dismay, this darn door wouldn't open. No matter how much force Orion used, it just wouldn't open. But now, Kushina had pushed it open so gently.
This was bound to surprise Orion. Why can Mom open this door so easily, and it looks like she didn't even use much strength? Why is that? Orion simply couldn't figure out the answer to this question.
Orion had long known that this study contained many ninjutsu scrolls and other precious items. There were even some ninjutsu scrolls with jutsu sealed inside them—the kind that could release a technique just by being torn open.
Those were good things. You could release a ninjutsu just by tearing them open. Even if the user didn't have a single drop of chakra, they could still release the technique. This was what made these sealed ninjutsu scrolls so precious.
Moreover, his father, Minato Namikaze, had already become the Fourth Hokage of the Konoha ninja village. It could be said that in Konoha, Minato was at the very top. On the surface, everyone had to obey his commands.
Yet, in the study of such a powerful and high-ranking person, there were only three scrolls with sealed ninjutsu. From this, one could see just how incredibly precious these scrolls were.
If Orion had been able to open this door, then he wouldn't have needed to find his mother, Kushina. He would have just opened the door himself, entered the study, found some ninjutsu scrolls he needed, and started practicing. Why go through the trouble of finding his mother, Kushina, just to have her open the tightly shut door?
Therefore, Orion could only look up at his mother, Kushina Uzumaki, and ask, "Mom, why can you open this door so easily? When I tried to open this door, I used all my strength, but no matter how much force I used, it wouldn't open. But why can you open it with just a light push?"
Looking at Orion's somewhat aggrieved little face, Kushina wanted to laugh, but she couldn't. She had to hold it in, because she didn't want Orion to think of his mother as heartless. Furthermore, seeing her child a little unhappy, she knew she should be comforting him right now, which made it even more impossible to laugh.
Besides, ninjas have an advantage in this regard. A ninja is someone who can endure what others cannot. If they can't even do that, then how can they be a proper ninja?
Kushina reached out her hand, patted my head, and said to me gently.
"Ori, you only saw your mom give the door a light push, and it opened. But you don't know how much chakra I used. And I think you know that this study contains many valuable things."
"Therefore, this door is rather special. You must have a chakra level equivalent to a Jonin to open this door. People who haven't reached the Jonin chakra level can't open it."
"So, don't even think about opening this door if you don't have the chakra of a Jonin. This is also to protect the things inside. If a thief were to come one day, it wouldn't be so easy for them to steal things from this room!"
"Don't you agree? Besides, this study also has three scrolls with sealed ninjutsu. Not the kind that just shows you how to train! The kind where the jutsu is sealed into the scroll using special means. The people who know how to make these scrolls are basically all gone now."
"So, your father and I set up this door. Do you understand now, Ori?"
Kushina Uzumaki had said a lot, and even Orion was getting tired of listening. Fear of a thief stealing things from the study? That excuse is just too lame!
Who is my father? My father is Minato Namikaze! He's the Fourth Hokage of the Konoha ninja village now, possessing great power. I bet there are many Anbu ninjas secretly protecting our house at this very moment.
What thief could possibly steal something from the Fourth Hokage's house? Forget stealing, just a stranger, anyone the Anbu deemed suspicious, probably couldn't even get near this house.
Yet Mother Kushina gave me that answer. Isn't she just trying to fool me?
I see. This door was probably set up just for fun. It's probably just to stop me from casually practicing ninjutsu, because many techniques are dangerous to train. That's why they made this door to block me.
Thinking this, Orion looked up at Kushina Uzumaki with a scornful expression on his face. He guessed that his mother had probably figured out his thoughts. It must be because of their mother-son connection; his mother could often guess what he was thinking.
Mother Kushina ignored his expression because she knew that the more she said, the more reasons I would have to refute her. Therefore, it was best to say nothing at all.
But suddenly, Kushina thought of something. She stared straight at me, at my face, making me feel a bit embarrassed.
Orion sighed and looked at his mother. "Mom, just say whatever you want to say! Stop staring at me like that. I know you have something you want to ask me. Just say it. I'm your son, I wouldn't lie to you, would I?"
Seeing her son being so direct, Kushina Uzumaki said, "Fine. Since you already know I have a question for you, then I won't be polite. I'll just ask you directly. You absolutely cannot lie to me. If I find out you've lied to me, hmph, you know the consequences."
Faced with his mother's demeanor, Orion could only give an awkward laugh.
"Alright, Mom, you can ask. I promise I won't lie to you. Is that okay?" Orion said helplessly.
Kushina looked at Orion's helpless face and smiled. "Then I'll say it!"
"Go on, go on. If you have something to ask, just ask. I always thought you were pretty straightforward, Mom. Why are you being so hesitant and indecisive now?" Orion said to Kushina.
