"I didn't realize you two were shopping together." Fiona's voice dripped with false sweetness. "Bonding with the family already, Hazel?"

"I'm actually a shareholder." Fiona's smile sharpened. "The owner is an old family friend. I was just checking on my investment."

"How fascinating," I said, trying to step around her. "We should be going—"


"No rush, surely." She shifted, subtly blocking my path again. Her attention turned to Cora. "I was so disappointed to miss your mother's charity gala last weekend. I heard it was spectacular."
