## Hazel's POV
My phone buzzed again as the ride-share sped through the city streets. Sebastian's name flashed on the screen for the third time.
I silenced it, my heart pounding against my ribs. The car smelled of artificial pine and the driver's takeout dinner. Outside, raindrops raced across the window, blurring the city lights into streaks of color.
"You sure you're okay to go home alone?" Vera's voice came through my phone speaker. "I can skip Sadie's after-party and come with you."
"I'm fine," I lied, watching buildings flash by. "I need to do this alone."
"Hazel, please—just sleep on it. Don't make any decisions tonight."
I closed my eyes, fighting back tears. "The longer I wait, the harder it gets."
"That's the alcohol talking."
"No, it's not." I straightened my spine, smoothing my dress. "My mind's made up."
The driver glanced at me in the rearview mirror. I lowered my voice.
